Fuddle: the fact that no one at the school has thought to mention this to you is a matter of great concern. As i said before, I don't imagine that our little one is the only child that this is happening to. Where is their pastoral care?
Thank goodness she talked about it at home. What about those children who don't have the sort of relationship with their parents that allows them to be open about their problems. And what about those mothers who don't have your expertise and common sense or are too intimidated by the school to make a fuss?

This is one of my pet hobby-horses. I'll shut up now.

  • Morning peoples, we've just come home from the boot fair which was odd today, many private sellers rather than dealers which is always better but what was on offer was all VERY worn and tired so I didn't spend much. What I did spend though was worth it I parted with the total sum of £6.50 and for that I got a Toddler Bed Guard for when my Zebra child comes to stay, he has his toddler bed at home and I suspect won't want to go in the cot here, I got a lovely white gravy boat and saucer for me, a pair of Danish white ceramic candlesticks for DD1, a lovely hand thrown pottery bowl in cream and blue for DD2 and a toy tool kit in a tool box for Zebra to play in the shed with Opa when he comes to visit, so not a wasted trip but I think I've got the best of what was there.

Lunch in the garden today as it's lovely and then He Who Knows will watch the Grand Prix and we'll both watch the IPL 20/20 Final after that smashing stuff!!!

Don't buy anymore toddler stuff until you've checked what I've got Lyn! There's a bed guard in the garage roof...

I'm getting rid of a plastic step if you want one. They don't need the one in the bedroom anymore as they can get into bed unaided, and only really need them for handwashing now. I have a feeling the potty collection has already gone (as far as I'm concerned you can't have too many potties...)

Ha ha, we've still got a red IKEA potty we bought for DGD to use when she came over and she never did use it :D Wondering if the Women's Aid refuge would like it.

Aah, yes, but that was your job, which you don't take home ;)

Seriously though, don't be harsh on yourself, we all have times of blindness to what is going on, and lack of info from school obviously hasn't helped this time.

On another matter, have you got any garden at this home? Were you able to bring your DHs woodwork with you?

Floss I have a lovely garden at this house, mature with a lot of upkeep but it keeps me busy. I have a brick raised bed at the bottom for my veggie growing so that goes some way to make up for having to leave my allotment behind.

We certainly did bring up the arbour. I've been having a cuppa out there quite often these past few weeks. I bought a climber from B and M for £1.99 and is shooting off. It will have greenery growing around it in no time :D

I don't know monna. We've moved around so much that schools haven't really gotten to know DD I guess. She's only been there 6 months so I guess they just boxed her off as being slow or distracted. They have also identified eldest as being vulnerable for transition for secondary school. I'm pleased because she gets a lot of input to help that transition but eldest has moved schools so often mid year she is used to it and actually looking forward to starting a school at the same time as everyone else! She's not at all vulnerable... quiet yes, small yes but a quiet confidence to envy. ;) I don't think they have my kiddlers summed up quite correctly but I think that's a lot to do with the large class sizes and I'm greatful they had a space for them both. We'll get there. Both of the girls settled so well and don't miss their old life so any annoyance we have dear monna isn't really shared by the girls so no more steam out of your ears lovely lady... but i'll give you the schools number should DD be in the detention room again for anything other than a consequence for her behaviour. :D

We have spent the day at Fountain Abbey near Ripon, walking, walking and walking. A picnic was just the ticket. A free day out with our membership plus not a penny spent. I am shattered though. Jacket potato with beans for tea as a reflection of my energy levels :rotfl:

You just let me have that phone number FUDDLE. They won't know what's hit them.
Your day sounds perfect. Eat your jacket and beans and put your feet up.

Lyn you did well at the boot sale. I don't dare go near one, I should be getting rid of stuff not adding to my problems.

For once our day went much as planned. DILhad to go to some event today for work. Poor dear, she was indoors all day and bored out of her mind. DS, DGS, DGD and I walked to the house with the huge trampoline but the kidlings took fright at the sheer size of it so we hot footed it to the lifeboat cafe which was heaving. Anyway, DS does their garden for them so we were very quickly found a table overlooking the beach and we enjoyed lovely sandwiches and a drink before drifting along the beach home again.

Tomorrow the village has its annual street fair so that should be good.

Enjoy the rest of your bank holiday peeps.

Apologies for missing anyone in this post, have been "enjoying" a virus, which has resulted in my usual vertigo. Normal service will resume shortly I assume. In the meantime hubby watched on with concern as I clung to the bed frame this morning like a sailor on a rough sea.

Fuddle, you're a wonderful mum and they're very lucky to have you watch so carefully over them.

Monnagran, anyone would be grateful to have you in their corner.... more as a tag team wrestler than a coach just giving advice :D

MrsLw, I've noticed the op shops (charity shops ) around here have been getting less donations, they're of poorer quality and they're dearer. Still manage to get the odd bargain but not like it was. Don't know what people are doing with their castoffs, because looking in the shopping centres there's plenty buying new stuff.

  • I know the charity shops over here are constantly pleading via notices in the window for fresh stock, as a consequence I have to hunt for quite a while until I find items on the 'wish list' now whereas a few years ago I'd be able to find what I was looking for quite quickly. I think people just don't have the wherewithal nowadays to constantly be buying in new things and as a consequence are no longer shedding 'old' things like leaves in autumn. The other factor in all this is online sites like Ebay and Gumtree where you can sell your goods and recoup some cash towards their replacements. Charity shops are charging way too much for the donations, I went into the Heart Foundation shop a couple of days ago and got a shock as they had in there an Ikea glass single bloom vase labelled at £1.99p and I'd bought one the week before from Ikea at 50p, do they not do ANY research before pricing items? I suspect not!

Lyn of course they don't. The people who price things are just people like us. To know the price of everything you would have to keep going round shops all the time. They would still make mistakes like that if they made it a full time job pricing things in every shop. It is not often they get things that are still available in the original shop.

I used to manage a charity shop when my older two were little. We used to price thing on what we would be prepared to pay for it ourselves. I have never lived near an Ike@ only been to one once about 16 years ago. I would have made that mistake. I did not realise they were so cheap.

They have always made mistakes. About 30 years ago the town I was living in had an ex catalogue shop. I saw a dress in the charity shop a few doors away at £1 more than new in the ex catalogue shop. None of the ladies had ever been in there so they had no idea it was so cheap.

Actually for everything that goes to a CS there are about ten items, often in much better condition, just put in the dustbin. That's why M & S started swapping your new articles for the old to give to O+fam.

We always donate to our local hospice shop, as Dad got a lot of care from the hospice when he was dying .Most of the stuff is top quality kids' clothes n toys from the Grandkids, but hardly ever do we get a thank you, or acknowledgement from the staff. I know they are volunteers, but las time I looked manners were free
PS Where's Hester hiding? I hope she's ok xx
