Could you possibly be thinking about the recent thing that St Ives voted on - ie something to do with refusing to allow developers to sell new homes as "second homes"? A move some other Councils throughout the country are already wondering about copying if it succeeds.
Though the obvious very first thought is - "secondhand" ones still will be.
I'm a little "undecided" on this myself - though tending towards "No-one should have a second home until everyone that wants to buy one has a first home"...and there obviously need to be safeguards in place to ensure anyone wishing to buy a home in their "own county" (whilst selling one they already have in some other county) gets to be able to buy them and have any cheaper "locals" price under those schemes existing to sell houses to "locals only" iyswim.0 -

Empty Dwelling Management orders have been around since 2006, but seem to be very rarely used for reasons I can't fathom! They can be used if the property has been empty for 2years without good reason.Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0

Oh dear, the builders from the site over the road asked very politely if OH would mind parking further back tomorrow morning, because they have a couple of trucks coming to take away the spoil where they've dug the foundations.
The trucks won't be able to turn and get through the gates if our car is there, so of course he said he would....it means moving it this evening in effect, as the trucks might arrive quite early in the morning, but by the time we got home from looking after the grandchildren the only vacant parking space in the road was our Blue Badge bay (obviously it's not our personal bay, anyone with a blue Badge can park there, but YKWIM) so we've had to park there in the usual spot! Just have to hope the trucks don't arrive until OH has managed to get up. I have visions of the foreman knocking on our door at 7.300 -

That's the one. There was a lot of talk about them being used more but I have yet to see any evidence of it. It makes so much more sense to bring existing housing stock back into use before it decays beyond repair than it does to use yet more materials (usually from finite resources) to create new ones.
Ivyleaf - you'll just have to get up nice and early tomorrow and move the car ... and then go back to bed0 -
Ivy, I think I would be tempted to give the foreman the keys and ask him to move it in the morning.
monna - What a fantastic turnaround for that young lady. She wouldn't have been able to get where she is without the help and support of folk like you, you must feel very proud.0 -

I missed that particular case, it went above my price range to 75p a bottle. Will try again later.
As for being useful, my friend has asked me to help clean out and organize her pantry. She has seen mine and [STRIKE]thinks I'm anal[/STRIKE] admires my skills. There's something about a tidy pantry that settles the mind.
Monnagran, what a wonderful story of overcoming adversity and what a great difference you've made. Hopefully her success will ripple out to others and provide inspiration on what can be achieved.
FurryBeastOz, I'm on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. If your hubby is coming over for work reasons I doubt it'd be near me, since there's very little of it around these parts. I can heartily recommend Australia though, love it here.
Hope you manage to move the car in time Ivyleaf, I'm sure the workmen will understand.
Presently I'm not sleeping well, no surprises there. All efforts to reduce jetlag are failing me. I only doze off well when I lie down doing my physio exercises which is inconvenient if amusing. I woke up still clutching my weights the other day...:rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Softstuff - maybe you should market yourself as a professional organiser/declutterer? Start a blog, get GQ to contribute 'tales from the attic' (see MK thread for gory details of dead wildlife...) so that a wider audience can appreciate her writing too, and get your friend to write you a testimonial about your pantry-organising skills.
You never know who else might need you.
Hope you recover soon. I've got two transatlantic trips in June - one east coast and one west. Not looking forward to the results.0 -

Brilliant idea greenbee :T
OH was able to move the car late yesterday evening - he didn't want to move it too early anyway in case it meant DS got home from work and found no vacant spaces. But several cars that had been there for some hours, went away so that was all right.
Problem now is that when we go out a bit later this morning there may be nowhere to put the car when we get back....the builders have put cones in the spaces behind our usual space, to allow room for the trucks to turn. We can see this being a regular problem, but hoping that won't happen and trying not to stress about it when there are other things far more worthy of being stressed about
Mardatha How is the weather? Have you been able to have any more ice creams?
Softstuff Sorry you're so tiredHope the jetlag wears off soon. Had to have a chuckle at you waking up still clutching your weights though
I'm reminded of our trip to NZ some years ago; the manager at one hotel remarked that the Australian tour parties tended to get very rowdy....and we were indeed woken up in the small hours by groups of very merry Aussies going back to their rooms.
The day we got back home, we managed to stay up until about 7 p.m., then crashed out. I was disturbed a few hours later by a noisy crowd going home from the pub, forgot I was back home, muttered "Noisy bl***y lot, I bet they're Australians" and went back to sleep0
