  • I should be able to keep my crochet hooks but I think my sewing machine will be going, but as you say Monna it's only stuff, it can't love me back.

I have a friend who sews in an RV...one project at a time. She makes quilts.
If you love to sew you you may be able to find a way.:)

I'm feeling positive this morning and have spent a while making plans.

My sewing machine will be the last to go, I will wait and see before I get rid of it.

I will offer my stuff to friends and family first, anything they don't want I will try to sell on Ebay/Facebook and maybe a carboot, anything I can't get rid of any other way I will offer to the local women's refuge/homeless charity.

When I'm down to the last knockings, I know someone who fundraises for a charity and I will offer it to her.

I need to spend the weekend measuring mirrors, bookcases and wardrobes etc so I can list them.

Hester, do you have any thoughts as to new areas? And do homes in your area sell well & quickly?

I think it's wise to have plans, particularly now you & your L&M have gone through such turmoil and wish to live a calmer, stress-free life.

Best of luck with your planning & reducing your stash,
    Floss xx

Hester. Think very carefully before parting with your sewing machine. It's the thing I miss most and a friend has offered me hers. I am living in one room but the machine will be found somewhere to hide. Possibly under my bed with the shoes.
You really need to know where you are going before you part with your most useful and precious things. It would be galling to steel yourself to give something away, really miss it and then find that you could have kept it after all.

On the good side, it is amazing how mood-lightening it is clear the clutter out. I love clear spaces in my home. I remember them fondly!

Mine lives on the dining table. It hadn't been used for a while, but DS is currently mending his jeans on it :)

Mine lives in a small cupboard in the small bedroom but is sitting on the dining room table at the moment waiting for me to turn a collar for DH. Must admit it would be one of the last things I would let go.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Floss, my house is in the catchment area of a very good school so it should sell quickly for around £250k, the problem is finding something we can afford nearby so I can continue to get to work and help DD.
I don't want a 'lifetime lease' property as I have a colleague who has had endless problems with one owned by her parent before they died.
I don't want a mobile home as the exterior upkeep could become expensive just as we get too old to manage it.
If we get a one bed flat I may be able to keep my sewing machine but I all we can get is a studio apartment then I doubt if there would be room.
I'm still making lists of stuff , what to sell and what to give away, tomorrow I will be taking photos of some items ready to sell.
