The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times

Some banks have arrangements with the post office, some don't. When you live in the sticks you choose your bank accordingly. Or tell people to transfer money electronically. Or print off a paying-in form and post it (usually to a central processing address, not your local branch or even your old one).
I now know how much dust the builders can make it a week. But the old floorboards they have sanded down and put back look fabulous. One room is all but done (the radiator leaked when the repressurised the system so they have got to redo some paintwork and get the radiator on and working again).
I need to decide whether to colourwash, varnish or wax the floorboards... and start packing to move myself in there by the time they have finished the second room, which should be at the end of next week.0 -
I'll second that greenbee. We changed to the bank that was local to our new home. Although DH has a car I am on foot and as I do all paperwork and money we felt it necessary to move our account. For me it was about organisation, ease of chores, no expense and keeping control myself when having no car could, if I let it, strip my independence.
I have been super busy this week but have been reading and chuckling.
Monna I was seething when I found out all those months ago and although you're now settled telling a story as opposed to living through the hurtful process with you it will still be a shock to people - feelings of wonderment I expect. You know how I left my place of work and what went down... to find out staff had been told that I left to be a stay at home mam instead of the truth and their part in what happened I was so angry. Seems the people who are wondering and are mistified are being told little. Sounds to me that something is preventing truths from being told in your case too eh? I wonder what fuelled your case? I expect it was embarrassment and guilt in my case.0 -
So here I am on holiday for 2 weeks, this seems to have been the longest 4 days ever! As is normal in this neck of the woods the holiday weather is upon us, torrential rain and a near gale force wind!
I'm going to spend a good few hours tonight catching up with some tv (Happy Valley is my current favourite) and then I will start spring cleaning tomorrow, or Sunday, or Monday!
I've booked flights to go and see DS2 in The Hague on Tuesday morning so better be organised, couldn't cope with coming back to an untidy house.
monna your day sounds idyllic, I love empty beaches. Greenbee, the dust does settle after a year or so!0 -
I just get our money from the mobile Post Office van, it comes twice a week to the bottom of my road. The RBS closed down the only branch within easy reach of us.0

Just popping in with an update for those who don't read the daily thread.
You may remember my DD has been diagnosed with mental health issues, SS have been told to put a care plan in place.
Yesterday I met with DD's social worker who is hoping to close the case with no plan in place.
It seems I'm just not making enough effort, I need to up my game, waking DGS up every morning, washing his uniform and PE kit, taking his stuff round every morning, taking him into work with me, helping him with his homework, getting/paying for his breakfast and his lunch every day is not good enough. I need to be doing it for all the children, I need to get the 5 and 8 year old to school too. Paying for dance/gym/drum lessons and getting the children to these, having a child to stay every Friday/Saturday and babysitting the 18month old every Saturday from 11 until 3 just isn't enough!
I'm bloody furious, I was upset last night but some straight talking from my MSE friends has made me feel better. I will carry on helping, but I refuse to take on any more.Chin up, Titus out.0 -

Sounds like Social Worker has decided you are the care plan - seriously not on. You are doing a huge amount more than SW has any right to ask for (I occasionally lurk on Daily). I know Social Services budgets are tight, but they also have a legal duty to provide services where needed, expecting family to pick up all the pieces is never on. (And they won't pay your mortgage for you - that comment alone is worth a complaint and should result in the SW being disciplined (employment wise, not pleasurably, gutter, mind out of).
Hang on in there and fight for the services your DD needs, provided by those who have a legal duty to do so.0 -

Fuddle: you have got it about right. Someone's guilt, embarrassment and a bit of reputation management makes people act in ways which they normally wouldn't dream of.
What have you been busy doing? Are you still trying to get some sort of sensible order into the garden? I am always amazed at your ability to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I have been sunk in apathy since Christmas, partly because I am still feeling lost and don't know quite where I fit in. However, the sun is shining, the garden is being cleared of debris after the storm and summer is beckoning.

Monna Sounds like the garden will be the saving of you. Do enjoy it but don't do too much. I used to be able to lose myself in a garden when I had one.
Fuddle sounds like you are doing the same.
I agree you are doing enough Hester and you should report the SW.
DS looks like he could be working full time next week covering someone who is away.0 -
Hester I am so cross at how you've been treated that I don't know what to say, except that someone needs a bloody good shaking and it isn't you. ((((HUGS))))
Fuddle and Monnagran ((((HUGS)))) to you too.
nursemaggie That's good for DS :T0
