Ha ha, Lyn, similar thing happens with me and my best friend, but texting at the same time (she lives in Scotland). Btw I loved reading about the fun you'd had with Zebra0 -
Three DDs phoned me earlier asking about the bridge collapsing and a fractured gas pipe and was I all right.
Just then all the lights went out. I used the light from the laptop to check circuit boards and they seemed fine so I went upstairs and looked outside and all neighbours and streetlights were off.
I assumed it was a powercut so got changed and went to bed earl
rather then wandering around in the dark. I found a lantern/ torch that worked and was fine but realised I would need to look out the old fashioned landline phone in the future. Also safety matches did not strike so need to buy ordinary ones.
The power cut only lasted half an hour and then dd and sil phoned saying they had heard the army was going to evacuate people and would pick me up to stay in their spare room rather than being evacuated to the grammar school.
They seemed a bit surprised to find me quite calm. They went out to investigate and found I am outside the evacuation area :j
I did find out that the gas supply had been cut off so I am glad I have a microwave and a remoska. I had always thought that the electrics would be the problem.
What I did realise is that what seems easy and straightforward in either the daylight or in electric light is very different when groping around in the dark Quite glad my first reaction was to get to bed and be safe.
Obviously in Spring or Summer our reactions would be different
and we could see to read, sew, cook etc.

Lyn you need a prearranged rota. My mum and I used to take it in turns ringing oneanother every Sunday. It stopped us both calling at the same time.
Glad you are OK Elona0 -

Practice moving around your house in the dark, finding a torch or candle and matches, finding your way around the rooms etc. Blind people can do it so we can too0

Morning everyone, its my first post on this thread but it seemed appropriate as I woke up and the garden fence has gone.... at least most of it. I could really do without the expense of replacing it although I shouldn't moan as compared to what many of you are going through it seems quite minor.
Best wishes to all who are suffering from this terrible weather, hope you all keep warm and safe.Well Behaved women seldom make history

Floods and more wind and rain here, all the gardens are flooded but it is receding, nothing compared to some, my heart goes out to all those affected.
Sorry to hear of your fence mrs motivated, welcome along.0
