Long time lurker, first time posting! Belated happy birthday Popperwell, was just wondering where you got those lovely trays?

Mrs L - thinking of you, HWK and the girls. I've been reading and lurking for nearly five years and have laughed myself silly at the interaction between Monna and Docky :heart2:

No I'm 57 like you(there, I've admitted it :p)Just think if Mum had had me as soon as she married I would be 67 now:eek:

Thank you Elona for the best wishes and for liking my trays. And Silvasava/WMF too. I really think there is something about getting through the early part of the year(with events that sit in the back of my mind)and I seem to pick up once my Birthday passes by.

I'm still eating some buffet items from the Birthday weekend so its been quite easy feeding myself these past few days.

Ah! I'm sure we had this 'I'm the same age as you conversation' a while back. ... I won't take umbrage if you thought I was 58. ;)
My Mum had my sister a couple of years or so after she got married, as I did my daughter. I was an afterthought!

They have other items in the range including mugs, kitchen items like tea towels etc...if you have an "Original Factory Shop" nearby, they have a website too I am led to believe. Thanks for the Birthday greetings.

We did talk about the possibility of how I could've been in my late 60's now...If Mum had had me immediately after marrying. I think she would've had me sooner but I never asked why they waited.:rotfl:You an after thought? Even if that were true I'm glad you're around:)

Andrea will verify, its turned into a horrible day...windy, its trying to rain and its already quite dark. A night to stay in but it could be quite boring. I wouldn't be surprised if I take my bed soon, read a little, listen to the radio. Don't think there's anything to attract me on TV but I may have a look. I'll finish off the buffet from last night(easy and quick)may rant and rave on Twitter and play some simple Facebook games on the internet.

Then again tomorrow Andrea and myself should be at our Music Club:Tand my concert at Durham Cathedral is coming around on Friday and best of all that's free:p

Lazy or what I decided to get some chopped onion today but fresh as I haven't room in the freezer. The day I wanted it they're out of stock so have had to buy shallots and onions and will have to do it myself. I told you when I start thinking of food again I'm improving and now I have purchased a few condiments to spice up even my simple meals like salad dressings/mayonnaise/relish etc...

Happy Birthday Popperwell, sorry it's a late greeting. Your trays are really bright and cheery, I can you using them all for teas/coffees and some of your birthday cake!

I went to Berwick for the weekend with my cousin and her husband, they are there for a week but as I am at work I just stayed the weekend. They have hired a brand new caravan, very swish and nothing like the caravans I have been in (mind you I haven't been in one for about 20 years!). We spent Saturday on Lindisfarne and it was fantastic, what a lovely place. I do like the idea of being cut off from the world, even if it is just for a couple of hours.

Still struggling a little with my back but it is very slowly getting better and I think the gentle walking at the weekend helped.

Well, June hasn't started very well, we have had torrential rain all afternoon with very strong winds but typically the sun is now shining!

Camelot thanks. I want to go to Holy Island again(only been once)a day trip to Berwick and Bamburgh Castle which I have never seen. But wait if that's the castle you see from Lindisfarne...I have seen it from a distance, now I want to get closer. I think this will have to be thought out and may mean saving up and staying in a hotel/B&B or see if I can find a coach trip type holiday or as you suggest a caravan site/park.

Its horrible out there...rain lashing the windows and since they installed a different boiler in the airing cupboard next to my bedroom I can hear the winds more if they get a bit strong.

Glad to hear you are improving...back troubles are not good:(

I've always like nice items but have put off for such a long time perhaps even though there is only me I'll try and have some more "Nice" things surrounding me. I have less use for ornaments these days and prefer rooms to be uncluttered but will make my home as homely as I can when I really get involved in getting furnishings(carpets/curtains/decorating/beds/lounge furniture)At Christmas I purchased lots of throws to cover the older furniture/cushions in the lounge(I'll reuse them)and fleeces and covers for my bed(and again will do so when I replace that)

My daughter used to live outside Berwick and we went often for a cup of tea and walk round the walls... i didn't like Lindisfarne though because it seemed to be all about money - I can't remember the details Camelot, just that it was spoiled for me by moneygrabbing. I found lonelier places up north felt far more spiritual.

Mardatha - that seems to be the way lots of places are going. Winchester, York, Ely & Salisbury Cathedrals to name a few. Doesn't sit easily with me at all. I know there is a cost to upkeep these beatiful buildings but high entrance fees tarnish the spirituality - what is the parable about money lenders????
Really windy & rainy here - garden getting blown to bits! Still, forecast says its dying down this afternoon - do hope so.

St Giles in Edinburgh is free, you can walk in and around while they're having services :)

That's what stops me going into many places(unless I can save up and justify the price of entry)Some parts of Durham Cathedral are having to look at charging for certain events and it just prices me out of the scene...and often those with the least need access especially to somewhere spiritually. But as has been said I appreciate there is the need to afford the upkeep of many places.

I'm sure some kind of voluntary scheme or a discount card could be shown by those who have less could be introduced.

Its been such a long time since I visited Lindisfarne I cannot remember how money orientated it was and again because it was a long time ago it may be worse now?

There are other ruins/castles/cathedrals I have found myself wondering if I should pay to go into over the years especially as many are around the £10+ admission fee. Perhaps I am wanting something for nothing. Its my fault?

They have an exhibition in Durham Cathedral now showing an edition of the Magna Carta but if I go and see it I think its around £8.50 and I assume though there may be more to see than the one book, I'm not sure what else is being displayed. And if the Magna Carta is being displayed(and it will be in a case)it will only be open on a couple of chosen pages.

We had a wild night of wind and torrential rain...sun is out now but still seems wild and a bit cold. Keep hearing about a heat wave that's coming...

    Morning all,

We were certainly a bit disappointed by the price of York Minster when we visited. I certainly understand that it takes a lot of money to keep up a place like that, and I was pleased to see that they were employed people with unique skills to preserve as many features as possible, but I do wish it wasn't funded through access. I suppose it comes down to either those who use it are expected to bear the cost of upkeep through paying admission or as a society we have to pay higher taxes to support our sites of interest even when things are tough. I don't think there is an easy answer.

We had tuna steaks last night so I'll have to sort something out for my lunch. OH has volunteered to cook tonight. He has a couple of broccoli recipes lined up or he might do courgette lasagna. The weather continues to be miserable here but I've defiantly put a wash on. The forecast says the rain should have stopped around ten but it is still going steadily...hrmmm.
