Npower Refund by cheque?

is this normal ? I thought any refunds just get credited back to your bank account, I rung up today to request my credit after finding out I had money owed to me and they said it was sent on the 26th feb by cheque
I don't mind if its cheque or not but wouldn't it be easier to just refund it back to my bank?

nPower paid me by cheque.
(but then I wasn't paying by DD at the time and so they didn't have my bank account details)0 -
When I switched in November, they refunded the credit direct to the bank account. Two or three years ago, when I moved houses and I was in credit, they refunded me by cheque. I was always paying by DD. Not sure why they did it differently this time though.SPC 08 - #452 - £415
SPC 09 - #452 - £2980 -
thanks for replys, I,m not too bothered about a cheque, I just found it odd why they would send one, when they could have easily just used my bank.0

Hi NittyGritty
Thanks for your post.
When a customer is with us, all refunds are processed automatically when an account has a credit balance of more than £5 per fuel, providing this is based on actual meter readings and the account has been billed within 28 days.
The method of refund depends on how a customer is currently paying. If a customer pays by Direct Debit, the refund will normally be processed by BACS within 3-5 working days; if a customer is receipt of bill or has left supply, this is normally by cheque within 10 working days.
If you have any further questions, feel free to get in touch using the details on our profile page - mark any emails as MSE so we know where to find the original query.

I had a credit on my account and they had my bank account details but they said because the account was now closed I had to receive a cheque in the post. This was on 7 March.0

So if I understood the nPower rep correctly, that's exactly what their policy is.
You only (usually) get a refund direct to your bank if you pay by DD and you are still a current customer of theirs for that fuel.
In all other cases, including having recently switched supplier elsewhere, you get paid by cheque.,0 -

Seems that way. For me a nuisance as I have to go into the City to pay it in.0 -
Does anyone know how long a cheque form Npower is valid for? I just found my refund from August last year, didn't get around to cashing it in at the time because I had moved and there was no branch of my bank in my new town...GC September 2012 - £49.04/£80 |GC October 2012 - £50.28/£80 |GC November £63.59/£60 (one adult only)0
