Is an additional card holder an existing customer?

I think I may have just messed up and applied for a credit card I will be turned down for.

Does anyone know, if you are an additional card holder, does that exclude you from applying for one in your own name? The blurb says:

A new M&S Credit Card account cannot be opened if you have held a credit card with us within the previous 12 months.

I am an additional card holder on my husbands M&S credit card.

If I have messed up and am about to be declined, should I be OK applying elsewhere or will it hit my credit rating?
Thanks!

Secondary card holders arent considered customers so you are fine on that front.

As to messing up up the CRA file/ applying elsewhere.... The CRAs only record the fact an application for credit has been made. They dont show the result nor the reason for said result. It is up to subsequent companies to decide how they interpret the data.

There is a common sense thinking that if someone makes a whole host of applications for credit in a short period of time then there is some sort of problem thats either causing everyone else to decline and/ or they are desperate for money. Of course their other concern can be that actually all the other application may have been accepted but the new lines of credit not showing so an affordability question gets raised as they cant know if that cap1 application was for a intro card with a £300 limit or a World Elite with a £12,500 limit
