Still working yesterday at my local Waitrose; won't say which one in case they fix it. :)
Understandable! :) But surely Waitrose systems are national?

In theory yes - supermarkets will operate the same software across all their stores , but it may take some time to roll it out to all their tills.

Sure this is bad news but I guess it was always going to happen sooner or later.

I also don't think there is any downside for WR here - lets be honest we are the 0.1% of customers who were aware of, and perhaps tried to exploit, the loophole. We are also probably not the most profitable customers to begin with.

The coffee change may be more impactful - that promotion had much more public exposure and wasn't a glitch

there is a small glitch to be had with the coffee.

This is the only way I can afford to shop in waitrose.
It has been working for me still this week and last, so I will have to play it carefully with a couple of reduced items and see what happens from now on.
I will still call in for my free coffee, but I will be doing a lot less spending.
I have an aldi nearby, so I will be doing more spending there from now on.

Bought two steak pies yesterday - £1.99 each but 2 for £3.00. Reduced to 99p and got the 98p back so one free. Won't say where but in SE next to a roundabout with cows on it.......
  • Didn't work for me yesterday, I was in when they had reduced items further as they hadn't sold at the 1st reduced price. Bought 2 packs of sausages 99p each, should have been 2 for £5 but the bottom of the receipt listed the further reduction as £0.00. I still got £7 or £5 with the offer of sausages for £2 so not complaining really but that extra discount was lovely while it lasted!

What's the glitch with the coffee zippy?

It's possible, of course, though very unlikely, that Waitrose has sufficiently sophisticated systems to allow it to treat individual stores differently. One store may have pretty much a monopoly in its local area (Sidmouth, perhaps) and another may have a lot of local competition (Ipswich, perhaps).

It might make more sense to leave things the way they are where Waitrose needs to attract customers in, but change the system where it has no need to.

I know a trick with the coffee too.
I know a branch where the 3 for £10 meat offer for example, when I scanned 3 reduced items in the offer it came to £10 so it still costs £10 when u buy 3 reduced items in this instance. When they used to have the offer discount on reduced items too, this used to come to about £8.50 or so (depending on how much was taken off on their '1st reduction', which isn't much).

In another branch yesterday it still took off the discount on reduced item, so it 'still worked'.
