Hi,
Does anyone know if you can find out if someone has you as an additional driver on their car insurance.
And can you get yourself removed if they haven't removed you?
Thanks

Not normally, data protection would prevent them discussing the policy with you.
Being a Named Driver can do you no damage at all though so not sure what your concern is?0 -
Could be using that to get a lower premium.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

Its my ex boyfriend who has me on as an additional driver to lower his premium and I just don't want any connection or potential link.0

He can add you if he wants. There's not a great deal you can do about it if he's determined to do it, and in practical terms it has no effect on you whatsoever.
The disadvantages really fall on him, because
(A) if he has a claim, his insurers might ask to see the driving licences of all his named drivers. You're not under any obligation to give him your driving licence if you don't want to. If he can't provide it, his claim may be rejected, and
(B) if you get penalty points or have an accident and don't tell him, he'll be providing false information to his insurers when he claims you have a clean driving record, and this puts him at risk of having his cover voided.
If you want to discourage him from doing it, you could always point these things out to him.0 -

They may be reluctant to discuss the policy with you.
But - IF you are listed an additional driver on any policy, then you are the subject of personal data (as defined under the Data Protection Act).
Therefore - you have the same rights of access to the data held and linked to you as anyone else has to their own data. The fact that someone else is the policyholder does not overrule your rights to data about yourself.
The company may have to redact/remove personal data relating to anyone else (such as the policyholder's name and address) before they give you your data, but they MUST give you a copy of your data on request on payment of the statutory fee (IIRC - £10).We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Which would be name, dob, type of licence, time held licence. What use would that be to the OP? Waste of a tenner.
Don't worry OP, no doubt his next girlfriend will soon make sure that you are off his policy

Thanks everyone for your input.

They must give a copy of the data if they can be correctly identified. Most insurers only take a name, age, length held license and relationship to the PH for Named Drivers and so arguably it would be very difficult to confirm the OP is the person named, especially if their ex has miss declared anything.
Its not beyond possibility for someone to date two people with the same name in their life, I know as I was the second "inside insurance" of one of my ex's (and you have to admit that Inside Insurance is an unusual name).
Secondly, all they can do if they can prove its them is get a copy of the data held on them and doesnt give them a right to be asked to be removed from the policy.0 -
Rosanna, you could write to the insurance company that you are no longer connected with him, and see what they say.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

IMO they should give anything that didn't include anyone else's personal information - specifically whether or not there was a policy in place and the period of insurance. Neither of these pieces of information breaches any else's right to have their personal data kept private, and is all the OP needs. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
