Memory card problem

Morning
I was given a Nikon D3200 DSLR as a present the other week and was so excited. It's an entry level camera as I am new to 'proper' photography.
The memory card it came with, in a bundle is a Samsung 32Gb and the camera keeps on telling me that the card is damaged and to insert a new one. As the bundle came with two of these I used the second one. Same message. I did a format of the card, took six pictures and then the same message came back. When I turn on the camera a little egg timer appears and chugs away for a while.
I've put the memory card into my laptop and the pictures are there.
I suspect (with my very limited knowledge) that the memory cards are not compatible with the camera - or could the camera be faulty?
Any advice would be gratefully received
Thanks

I always play safe and use cards approved by Nikon for a particular camera ...

If that's the bundle recommended by John Lewis, then I'd go back to JL and get them to sort it out.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
This error is quite common if you don't unmount the memory card before removing it from your PC. The only fix is to format the card with your PC and then format it again in the camera settings menu.
USB > Remove hardware
It is of course possible you have two faulty cards, if they are from the same lot code, it could be a faulty batch.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Failed to work with Nikon D3200 camera that the card was purchased for!
Looks like it could be an issue with that card. Go back to John Lewis and complain. Make sure the other brand of card they replace it with works before you leave the store.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

Pulled zillions of cards and USB sticks without force unmount over the years and never had that happen once, just made sure it's not been written to before pulling.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

It didn't work from the start - from first being put in the camera. Didn't put it in my PC until this morning. Nothing to do with the PC but I appreciate you responding.0 -

Brilliant - many thanks. I did do an internet search but you were more successful. I'll go back to John Lewis now. I've also ordered a different card meanwhile.0 -
What filesystem does the Nikon expect? Maybe the card has been formatted with the wrong filesystem (e.g. ntfs or ex-fat instead of fat32/16).
I always format my removable drives from a Linux live image, using the good old fashioned command line and then I do a filesystem check with "fsck".0
