Carphone Warehouse Won't Repair Contract Phone Within Warranty

I really hope someone can advise me what to do as I'm really at a loss....
I have an iphone 4s which is 5 months into a 24 month contract with Talkmobile. One day it suddenly came up as 'no sim' and after trying other sim in phone and vice versa, I realised it was a problem with phone itself. I rang Talkmobile who told me to take into Carphone Warehouse. I was then sent away for repair. Sooner than expected I got a text to pick up phone and so earlier today I went back to the store. I was told the phone had been returned to store as they would not attempt repair as phone has a tiny gold bit bent within the charger port. I was unaware of this as have never had any issues charging phone, so have never had any cause to look in there. Phone has been looked after and in no way mis-handled, so I really don't know what to do now. Am I really stuck with paying £15 a month for another 19 months for a sim but with no phone to use it in ? This seems really unfair...

Try contacting Apple directly. Most likely they will replace it for free.

However, if they do, you lose your rights against the company that supplied the phone (CPW? Talkmobile?): Consumer Rights

Make an appointment with your local Apple Store. They'll sort it.

If you have an iPhone there's no point messing about with anyone besides apple. They'll fix or repair it there and then As long as it's in warranty.

  • Thankyou for your replies. When I said to the man in store about my Apple 12 month warranty, he said that would also be null and void due to the bent pin..

Since he doesn't work for Apple how would he know?

As above. Make an appointment with your nearest Apple Store. Take it in and explain the issue. Don't mention any bent pins. Just explain the original issue.

Don't tell them it was sent away to a third party repair. That will no doubt void your warranty. As apple don't like other companies messing with their phones.

Does the phone charge okay now? The charger port has nothing to do with the SIM, so it's like they are fishing for a reason not to repair the real fault which surely is not acceptable.
