They're big enough and clever enough to hedge their costs in advance if they really believe there is inflation risk. But no, they are purely doing this as a money-making exercise.

The are big and clever, How do you think the networks were going to claw back their profit due to the fact they can't charge more for roaming in Europe other than increasing charges elsewhere?

As an Orange SIM only customer I have not and it does not !

As an Orange customer why would you have expected to be notified of a change for EE customers?

For some of course, including me, there was some massive help on this forum last year when EE did this. With various advice including letter templates, vast amounts of people received previous bills reimbursed, contracts cancelled penalty free and compensation on top - all because what they were doing was illegal, hence paying out. I would imagine that they would have themselves covered in contracts handed out since then, so not sure where people would stand on cancelling this time.

Another chance for me to say thanks to those who did help out last year, and good luck to those fighting the RPI rise this year.

Some contracts now specifically state that the contract will rise by a set amount (usually RPI) within the minimum term. O2 and EE started this early 2014, and will only be applying this to people who are on these newer contracts.

We've both been on Orange PAYG for years but rarely make calls from either as they've got so expensive to use. £5 on each phone probably lasts well over a year.

To make calls we use a Three phone on 321 PAYG. Way cheaper for low users than being tied to a contract.

The only issue is that there are areas where Orange has coverage while Three has none or is patchy but they're catching up.

I'm with you on this one. Swapped to 3 payg about 4 months ago from o2 and really pleased with their service, especially the price of calls!

i know! i had been with o2 for 17 years. and in 16 years of that they never once did any RPI increases.

also in the last year of being with O2 the reception signal around my area and the area at work both seemed to be getting worse and worse.
and at my sisters home it had all but vanished.
when i contacted O2 they denied anything was wrong. that was the final straw!

Its basically the fairness of it all. While EE and o2 are doing nothing wrong the general public are always to suffer. Of com said they wanted to stop price hikes but fail due to loopholes. I been with my contact a month before they announced the price increase. I will tell the truth I missed the part of the contract regarding the price increase but from what I heard from watchdog I thought I was safe. At the end of the day I don't trust any company now. They all screw us over one way or another.

Moved from EE in December as they did this last year, as did O2 when I was with them the previous year. Now with 3 who specify (on SIM only anyway) that they will not increase the price mid contract. Switched last month and so far impressed with signal and service. They also offer calls and texts abroad to be included as part of your allowances (i.e. taken from your minutes per month rather than charged seperate) and have working models of all phones in their shops rather than those plastic dummy ones. If the signal and service stay the same, then I'll be staying with them. I just hope they don't buy out and opt O2s policies, I found their signal and customer service poor at best.

Something to do with Orange being part of the EE network maybe. From the article
Here's what you need to know if you're an EE (which includes Orange and T-Mobile) .....
