Hi folks,
I have a nexus 7 2012 and just wonder should I upgrade it to the latest android version 5.02 (since I believe there were problems on its initial release) I do have kitkat 4.04 but says 5.02 is ready to install.
Thanks for any info.

No dont do it.I did it on the same model as you and i could have thrown the flipping thing at the wall. I couldnt even read the books i have on it as it was really bad after the update. In the end i had to format it back to factory settings as it was so slow or not even loading anything .I still had the new update on it after formatting it and all my apps i installed again as they are on Google Play/It now works ok,not great but not as bad as it was.0

Can't speak for the 2012 model but I have the 2013 model and it's fine on Lollipop 5.0.2.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

I have a N7 2012, whilst the original v5 android was awful mine now has v5.02 and is usable but nowhere near as quick as it was with v4.4.4.
So, with hindsight I wish I'd never upgraded.
But Ive since bought a Hudl 2 which currently a v4.4.4 device, so the N7 sits in a drawer unused.0 -
I had upgraded my wife's 2012 N7 to 5.02 ... it ran like a dog, even though it was a clean install rather than an upgrade. It's now back to 4.4.4, and the upgrade notification is being ignored.
I think the N7 2012 is just not up to the Lollipop requirements.0 -
I have a 2012 and it runs on Lollipop fine
Either go to Slimroms or have a look over on Xda and use a custom 5.0 Rom they are much better than Stock:D0 -
Thanks for replies and advice. I think I will stay with 4.4.4.
Though just out of interest or in case I will have to use it in future, is it difficult to root (is that the right word) so as to be able to install any android version you want?
Thanks

Have a read on here rooting and installing Roms is easy enough but you to read and read again, then go back and read a bit moreit saves time and avoids mistakes others have made before.

Nexus Root Toolkit. That makes rooting quite easy.0

Why are people saying its a bad idea? You say it makes it un-usable but in what way?
I upgraded my Nexus 7 2012 (with 3G) and it does run slow but it was pretty laggy when I was on 4.4.4 as well. What really annoys me is the wifi issues, if I am at home connected to wifi occasionally it disconnects and doesnt 'remember' my home wifi and the only way to fix it is to turn it off and on again.
I will try a factory reset at some stage and if that doesnt work I guess I will try a custom rom.0 -

Hopefully 5.1 will address your Wifi issue, looks like N7 2012 confirmed for update.

Edit:
List of some changes for 5.1 :- Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
- General improvements in system stability
- Improved RAM management
- Fixes for sudden app closures
- Improved battery management
- Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
- Issues with wireless connections fixed
- Problems with Okay Google function solved
- Notifications problems solved
- Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
- Other improvements and changes
- Changes in the Material Design color palette (after users complaints, possibly for a higher version though)
