Unless you're out of contract, you won't be able to cancel the contract without them making you pay your remaining contract charges.

So, what actually happened? Did they reactivate you onto your original account but with a different number or did they open a new account, resulting in a different number.

I understand you will have been frustrated but if there were any technical reasons behind this, this will be no different from you not having signal for a month. And I assume you were still able to access the network and use some service, albeit with a different number??

I think the most you'll get is a refund for the time it took to resolve, so a month's line rental back.

There is nothing's to compensate you for, you have not suffered any loss.

Hey moose, yeah they activated me onto my original account with a new number. It was purely down to human error, it is a very valid point that it is no difference from not having signal for a month.

Yeah, I guess the month back is the minimum I can expect. I don't expect the moon, however, it is incredibly frustrating that these companies effectively suffer no loss as a consequence of their failings.

I'd squeal louder - I've had my mobile number for over a decade, everyone knows it, various people who give me work know it. It would be incredibly bad news to lose it.

This may be so but unfortunately you wouldn't be covered for loss of business should anything similar happen, unless you're on a business contract. And even then you'd have to mitigate any losses and prove what you did incur.

I imagine it is very annoying but I would imagine the month line rental refund will probably be the maximum you get. :(

Mistakes happen. Its unreasonable to expect someone to be flawless. And the courts hold the same opinion.

The purpose of the law is to balance the interests/rights/obligations of both parties....not just one.
