Cancelling Virgin TV and Internet

Ive moved in with my girlfriend a few months ago. She has had Virgin TV and internet for 2 - 3 years.
We wanted to leave virgin, but they offered a reduced price to add sky sports to her package.
The problem is that now that they have updated the services she has, they are saying that she is locked in for 12 months.
Was wondering if it is legal to extend the lock in by 12 months every time you add something new to the bundle? We are having lots of problems with virgin and want out.
Sky tv never added a lock in everytime i added something after I had served my initial 12 month lock in period?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Of course its legal.
No doubt she read the letter they send out when you change your package?0 -
It just seems harsh.
With sky one my lock in period was over I could add and drop channels on a month by month basis.
If thats the way Virgin operates, we will serve our time and then leave for good.0 -
That's the trade off. They give you money off and you commit to paying them for a further 12/18 months. Pretty standard.
If you pay full price it looks like you are just commiting for 30 days according to their website, which is often the same way as Sky work. if you have a look at the thread on here about Sky/Virgin retentions often (but not always) the best offers come with some minimum commitment.0 -

You can take premium channels for a min of 30 days with Virgin as well.
But in this instance your girlfriend came to an agreement for a reduced rate because she agreed to take it for 12 months.
Sky would also expect you to keep your part of your agreements, as would any company.0 -

Does this mean that they are not providing the service that they agreed to provide? If so, you have a way out on that basis. Make a written complaint (using their complaints process): probably they will not respond, so escalate it either by copying your complaint to the CEO's office (Google to find the email) and/or to the regulator, CISAS I think. At that point they will notice and deal with the problem, either by resolving your service issues or probably by allowing you to leave.0 -
Why don't you use the recent price rise notifications as detrimental to give notice without penalty? See separate thread. If you've received this then you'll probably have 30 days from receipt to play that card. But if you've gone beyond that cut- off then there is no way out without paying the ETC.
Bear in mind that without VM you will need a BT-based line provisioning or reconnecting-there are no other cable suppliers. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
