I have a feeling they are not going to change it, I might even phone them next time I am at a loose end and ask why.

It's making my postage a lot slower having to export addresses to RM postage instead.

I agree, it's really pee'ing me off now.

    Hi All

Just been to the P.O and told international large letter class is for letters only, paper etc, You can't send any other items in this class.

Unlike the UK Large letter which you can send all items eg clothes

    Anyone else been told this?

    Or have I been mis-sold

    Cheers

    Rawy
Today I have been told exactly the same at my local Post Office. I had a package that was within the Large Letter size limits, weighed 260gms, and was charged £7.70 AirMail to Philippines. That's the Small Parcel rate. Only 25p over the LL rate, so not worth too much of an argument, but that's not the point.

I haven't risked the PO yet- but my mail centre is happy to take large letter airmail items that are obviously gull of more than letters

I will get round to phoning paypal at some point, I just don't think I can face the inevitable doom and gloom when I do.

I used RM's enquiry form to ask:
Please can you confirm that the recently introduced 'international large letter' rate is applicable to *any* package within the size limits specified? I ask because I have just sent a package containing a gift to the Philippines. The package measured 20mm by 400mm by 150mm and weighed 260gms. I was charged the small parcel rate of £7.70 at my Post Office. I was told that only letters could be sent at the Large Letter rate and anything else, even if within the specified size, must go as a 'small parcel'. Is this right? Surely not. I welcome your feedback. Thanks, xxxx
I have just received this response:
    Dear Mr xxxx

Thank you for contacting Royal Mail.

I can confirm that our International services are no longer content specific and any item can be sent as a letter or large letter providing the dimensions and weight are specific to the required postage.

I hope you find this information useful and if we can help again, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Regards

So who are the Post Offices answerable to? If they keep overcharging, it seems to be quite a widespread problem. There must be plenty of people who don't know and the POs are getting away with it.

I agree, they must be answerable to someone.

I'd bet they don't get the equivalent of weights and measures checks.

They probably get very few complaints given that those who have been overcharged will generally not know, only if the recipient tells them.
