Vauxhall Service Plan - Don't Change Brake Fluid

I took out a £25 per month 5 year service plan last year when my Antara was a year old and due it's first service.
When I called this year to book the second service they offered to change the brake fluid for an extra £35 as it is a "Vauxhall recommendation to change it every two years" but is not included in the service. Hints about safety were also put forward.
I declined the offer and I think this is a disgusting con! If this is a Vauxhall recommendation, and a possibly safety issue, then it should be included in the service. The con artist confirmed that declining the offer would not invalidate the life time warranty, even if the fluid was never changed!
Any comments appreciated.

They can/should 'test' brake fluid, there is a small device that you take a small sample of the fluid and I think it boils it to work out the water content and therefore if it does need changing or not.

    £1500 for 5 services, ouch!!

    This ^^^.

£300 a year to have a couple filters changed is a sore one. I'd cancel that ASAP OP.

I had my old BMW for 7 years and done about 100k miles in that time period, never had to change the brake fluid once. My newer car the major service (£230) does include a brake fluid change inclusive, I asked whyband was told its just a precaution due to contaminents.
  • £35 isn't a bad price to have the brake fluid changed. I recently paid £59 at Audi.

Just because you haven't done it, doesn't mean it wasn't needed.

I think the OP point was more that its not included in the expensive service plan.
  • I've never once been advised to change brake fluid on any car I've owned in 30 years.

I will put money on the service schedule including it at a two-year interval.

Can someone explain to me where this water comes from in a sealed system?

    The system isn't hermetically sealed.
