Friday 27th Feb - What Small DFW-Style Things Will You Be Doing Today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important:money:

    Evening DFW-Jedis,

Well, life goes on, as does the almost everlasting quest for solvency and sanity.

Today is a work day so my list is not very long.

    The List:

:starmod: Check online banking and reconcile monies.

:starmod: Turn off electric alarm clock at the wall til tonight.

:starmod: Take a packed lunch to work.

:starmod: Pay rent before deciding what to do with "excess" money.

:starmod: Paid an extra £100+some shrapnel off The Debt.

:starmod: Stay away from vending machines at work, except the free beverage machines!

:starmod: Use free company WiFi in the canteen.

That's all, I'm afraid. Good luck on your quests, Jedis.

  • Hi!

Today I hung out the washing on the line - it topped 34C so I'd have to be bonkers to use an electric dryer!

I... stayed indoors most of the day, rather than go out and spend money. (I'm a SAHM) Played with my toddler. Free and lots of fun :)

Also I reduced my credit card limit (something I like to do every $500 increment)
Looking forward to being Debt Free!

Today is my Big Budget Day, but I can't face it until I've had a 2nd cup of coffee & put a colour on my yukky roots! So I had better be checking back here later to report that there has been significant budgetary activity......

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Wow everyone's up and at em early today!

Dawn -thanks for your comments yesterday. I plan to do the same with my space now. I'm going to list it on a local pop ups website as soon as I can get nice pictures ready. There seems to be a thriving market for pop ups in London now and from doing my research some small brands will pay £10 a day to have a shelf or sales rail in another shops space. I don't know if get that where we're located but I've been asked before and said no. I've learnt so much from the temporary job I took as the woman who owned it had a lot of experience in setting up pop ups.
Ziggy -it's a cafe. Or it was. And hoping to be again. We were up and running for 2 and a half years before the problems began. We'd be 3 in May.

FVD -so pleased to hear about your viewing. Although you sound in mixed feeling about it all?

Ally - well done on your paying off progress. Here's to seeing it go under the £1,000 mark!

Well OH pay day here so once I'm up it will be sorting the bills and moving money around. I'm looking forward to paying off supanet once and for all today and chalking that up to an expensive never to be repeated mistake. All I can pass on to others is make 100% sure that a company understands what it is you need from them before you get any further. In our case they couldn't seem to get that we had a fibre box and that threw everything out.
Will have to pay a bit less off the CCs than I'd like but no point chipping one debt down only to rack up another (the OD) next month all being well I should be making the first big chop of the year aiming for £1100 off. Fingers crossed.

its sunny here although we had a frost overnight. Looking forward to walking my errands today and as son has been invited to a playdate after school which his dad will collect him from on his way home I am free of the school run tyranny! Woo hoo

    Morning all :)

Thanks for starting the thread Ally :)
Ziggy - wow, 4 prizes! What were they?
Pineconesjay - 34 degrees! I had to check the left hand side panel to see where you are. For the record, I haven't looked at the temperature yet, but it looks wet if you look out of the front window, and icy if you look out of the back here - not sure how that works  It isn't as though I have a big house....

    For me today:
    Check banksDone
Help OH get the firewood to the back of the house and stacked (he didn't get to this yesterday)Done, and no aches and pains (no mean feat at my age :rotfl:
Text DS to ask if GD1 is still coming to stay this weekend Yes, and could you do lunch for us all tomorrow Mum?
Wait in for loose covers company rep this afternoon - doesn't sound very moneysaving, but my old but very good quality sofa is looking decidedly tired, and a cover will be a lot cheaper than a new one would  Very pricy, more than I thought, but still cheaper than a new sofa
Tidy and hoover lounge before sofa man gets here, as it looks like a bomb has hit it after all my decluttering
Chase up remaining freecycler to see if they still want the item they asked for  If still no response, relist it. Relisted
    HM meals from stores Done
Breadmaker needs to go on at some point Made a spicy fruit loaf today :)
Finalise spends for February Grocery Challenge - I have gone over, but want to know how much by :oDidn't get to this as the sofa man was ages!
Finish meal plan / shopping list

Right, hoovering first, as I probably wouldn't have the energy to do it after moving all those logs

Almost forgot, I ordered a blueberry bush for the garden today. What with that and the sofa covers it was a very spendy day for me  - though I only had to pay a deposit on the covers today

Getting the late train today as DS doesn't go to college on the days I leave before him. I will still be leaving before him but he'll have had extra wake up calls today so no excuse. I've told him I'm not putting money for lunch/the weekend into his account until he rings me from college to say he's there. No more Mrs nice mum I'm afraid until he gets his act together.

Lunch today will be half the enormous Melton Mowbray pork pie that was substituted for the smaller, half-price one I ordered and it'll still be in date on Monday for the other half. I love it when a substitution goes my way :D

Breakfast from home and I have grapes in my drawer at work for snacking.

Dawn - Don't you just hate it when freecyclers don't turn up? I've taken to just putting stuff outside my house with a 'free' notice on it now.

Bob - I dream of owning a cafe but it doesn't sound like you're living the dream right now, hope things improve sharpish.

  • :hello:Good morning all! Is it sunny where you are? It is here where we live albeit cold. Unfortunately I won't be able to enjoy it much coz I'm heading to bed for some zzzz's after 2nd night shift.

Not much DFW activities lined up today due to my beauty sleep but here's a few that I have in mind:

Wake up at 3pm to catch the bank before they close - To take money out to put in my labelled up money envelops. (First time to use these envelops so I am really excited.)

Try not to be distracted by shops around the bank and not be tempted to shop. Planning to have a NSD today.

Go home and cook dinner using food in freezer and cupboards.

Lunch to work already prepared last night (cooked loads last night and packed some for lunches and some to be frozen) All ingredients cost only £3.

Convince hubby to ring Halifax regarding cc, to see if we can re-negotiate a short settlement or failing that, ask for a reduction or freezing of interest. A girl can dream right?

Earn some extra £ on 3rd night shift.

But first I need to catch some zzz's. Enjoy your day, fellow DFW's!
