Ebay Global Shipping lose parcel - i have to pay!

Every day seems a banging my head against the wall moment with Ebay.

Tracking shows my item arrived at Ebays mail center, was forwarded then lost by Italys usless postal system.

Buyer opens a PAYPAL claim. They refund him with no appeal.

Ebay say as it was a PAYPAL claim GSP Seller Protection does not cover it.

Fourty quid down, and nothing i can do.

Im sick of Ebay - life really is too short for this crap.

    That sounds harsh.

I must say I am fed up with e-bay too. Free listing mostly but they take 10% of my sale and 10% of the postage.

A rival would be very welcome.

That is poor. I was under the impression that once the parcel arrived at the mail centre I was protected from INR!

Try appealing - I've just copied this from their help pages on GSP:

"You aren't responsible for item loss or damage that occurs after the item is forwarded by the UK Shipping Centre. Once an item has been forwarded by the UK Shipping Centre, you won't be responsible for refunding the buyer if an eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Buyer Protection case is filed against you for one of the following reasons:
A buyer claims an item isn't received
    or
A package is damaged in transit"

GSP is not an appealing option for most buyers or sellers. Buyers pay a lot more, and sellers still end up carrying the can! The revised GSP T&Cs coming into force next month, end up giving the seller more responsibility for loss than they have now.

You can send to Italy yourself, tracked and signed for, and this very reliable. It will cost the buyer less, and you can cover yourself up to 250 no problem.

I think using GPS is a very good way to lose sales - it makes you very uncompetitive especially with the weak euro.

Either post yourself, or don't bother.

Techspec - I hope you are going to pursue this with Ebay?

Surely this can't be right. Ebay are responsible for the parcel after it leaves the UK so surely they must refund you now. Otherwise who can you claim against for the loss of the parcel?

Ebay can't operate a system whereby you have absolutely zero protection as a seller even if you've done everything right.

I would still try, given the info I pasted in my previous post. It could be that they had a CS rep that didn't realise that the seller was covered if a buyer opened a PP INR. Worth a shot.

For what it's worth, I agree with you about the GSP - I opted in for a few weeks, saw my sales plummet internationally, realised it was the horrendous shipping cost imposed by the GSP, and promptly pulled out - and have seen an increase in my intnl sales ever since.

That's not what should be happening. For reasons I can't quite remember I 'attended' a webinar about GSP before it was rolled out. The Ebay reps who hosted were quite firm that there was no way the seller could lose out once they had it.
I'd keep telling them this until they refund/credit.
I dread to think what will happen with Paypal claims once Ebay and Paypal separate.

In the meantime as a precaution I've just blocked Italy and a few others from my listings as I'm enrolled in the GSP.

By the way, the 'small print' limits claims for PO Boxes, China and Russia so anyone using GSP should block these as standard anyway.

The block for PO Box for overseas has never worked.

I've had items sent to Canada and Spain recently which were in effect PO Boxes (ie Correos 12345) but the Ebay blocks don't recognise these. Ditto for Packstations which are essentially German DHL PO Boxes that only DHL can deliver to.

I generally post internationally, but I tend not to go outside Europe so I tried GSP on a few listings to places like Brazil. One of my my listings, the GSP was something like 190 pounds to Brazil - for something I could have posted myself at the 1kg Royal Mail Small Packet rate. Needless to say, I didn't get any sales there!
