Cold Calls

I haven't heard of this. I thought you shouldn't press buttons as then they know it's a genuine line and will call again.0 -

My experience of it makes me agree with your sentiment.

Absolutely, they really are quite useless!
The only problem I've found is that by blocking "withheld" numbers, some important calls fail to get through (ie hospitals, vets etc.) and so I've had to take off the "withheld" from my phone; I do have "caller display" though, so can decide if I want to answer the phone or not.
I'm usually very rude to cold callers; sometimes depending on what mood I'm in I might lead them on a bit and then tell them to "go forth and multiply!";). I had the old " there's something wrong with your computer" scam the other day; I told the caller that that particular scam was so old it was pensionable and I couldn't believe that it was still being used!:rotfl:A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0 -

It should do ... provided you have Caller ID/Caller Display enabled on the line. (i.e. the calling number is shown), and it's a BT-based line (actual phone line, not VOIP).
I do have caller ID but my line rental is with TalkTalk. Is that a BT based line?
But as Missus Hyde said, I would not want to block all Withheld numbers because some people who phone are ex directory or call from skype, so not sure how you rectify that issue?0 -
As said BT8500 excellent phone to block cold callers
