I second the plastic crate approach. If not, Lakeland so a tray which is designed for soaking oven shelves - it would be big enough to sit a litter tray in, and being plastic is easy to clean. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/20228/Oven-Rack-Soaking-Tray?gclid=CKTFuIOHgsQCFWbHtAodvgUAkA&src=gpsol&s_kwcid=AL!49!3!52960597091!p!!g!!oven%20shelf%20soaking%20tray&ef_id=U2izDgAABQChleES:20150227114756:sAll posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0

Dunelm and The Range do large plastic storage boxes with lids, so you could use one of the lids if the crates themselves have sides that are too high.0

One of ours has aiming issues...or rather, she just holds herself too high and merrily pees over the side.
I bought a roll of this stuff and cut some to put under the tray, it's useful for other things too

But we've actually just bought a covered litter tray (a funky one with Simons Cat on it) which has been delivered today so hopefully she'll use that and stop flooding the floor. There's a fiver riding on whether she'll use it or not - OH reckons she'll freak out, I think she'll be fine after some initial mistrust of the new thing!0 -
The boot liner suggestion is the sort of thing I was thinking of, thanks. Storage boxes woudl be too high - the current litter tray is just about the max height I can use. Will also look at the other suggestions. ThanksWhat goes around comes around.....I hope!0

You can cut down the short side of the storage box to a height your cat is happy with. I used a hacksaw.0

OP I feel your pain. Mine used to scrape the litter up one end of the tray then stand on the opposite end tip the tray up to ensure the whole of the kitchen floor was covered in litter. and then GO in the subsequent pile that was on the floor *sigh*just in case you need to know:

The item I linked to would be fine, just take the top off. The tray itself is deep and seems to stop any mishaps0

Tiddlywinks, I have put electrical tape around the edges so its all smooth and safe!0

I think I have ound a solution in my local garden centre - they have some gravel trays that look around the right size, I just need to get the tape measure out and check it will stick out beyond the litter tray.
