Is There Any Way To Repair A Scratch On TV Surround?

Hi Everyone,
I got a brand new LCD TV with a lovely piano black finish a few weeks ago. Just today a long scratch has appreared along the top of the piano black finish just above the screen  At first I thought perhaps one of my cats had done it but there's no way a cat could have climbed to the top edge of the TV like that without causing a whole lot more damage/scratches so I'm baffled as to how it got there.
It's not a huge deal as it's not on the screen and it's not all that noticeable once the TV is on and you're sitting a number of feet away but it is upsetting that it's scratched already with it being so new.
Is there any way to repair such scratches or is it just a case of live with it? Also can anyone suggest a good cleaner to use for the TV in general as I've been using the cloth that came with it but it's not really making a dent on the dust
Thanks for any help.
Regards
Michelle

Sometimes they can be touched up with felt tip pen.
A slightly damp cloth can be used on a LCD.0 -
boot polish?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Are you sure it wasnt there when you bought it? like you said you only just noticed it it could have been there when you got it. I would return it for an exchange, no matter what you do you will always know that it doesnt have a perfect finish that you paid for.0

Hi LittleJohn - I'm pretty positive it wasn't there when I bought it. I gave it a very thorough inspection and I've also been dusting it every few days since so I'm sure I would have noticed it as it's easy to notice when you're up close to it dusting it. I'm sure it's only appreared in the last 2 days and I haven't got a clue how it could have happened but it's very annoying  Even if it had been there since I got it, though, I doubt I'd be able to exchange it now as I'm just outside of the 28 days and I'm sure they'd expect you to highlight something like that within a few days.
So I think I'm stuck with trying to fix it or living with it.:(

You have nothing to loose trying to return it as scratched on delivery.
My post wasnt really a question it was somthing to jog your memory in to remembering it had a scratch on it when you bought it. You have only just had the chance to report the fault or you only got it out of the box this last week.
Give it a go you should get a good result.0 -
There is a trick that furniture restorers use which is to use a wax crayon of matching colour and rubbing it into the scratch then somehow polishing it off. I am sure a google search will give tips on actually how to do this. However probably better to try and return first even though it is over 28days it does have a 1yr warranty.

I see what you mean now
I'm not sure I want to try that though as quite a number of people posting over at AV Forums who got this TV have reported audio snyc issues with it that my set doesn't have. Some of them have had 2 or 3 different sets all with the same problem and had to wait up to a week at a time between the old TV being taken away and a new one being delivered so I'd be scared I'd end up with one with the audio problem and also be without a TV for ages if I did this

Thanks Jules - I actually have a 3 year warranty (although i was under the impression a warranty wouldn't cover cosmetic damage
) I'm reluctant to try to return it though for the reasons stated in my post above. It's annoying as without these issues I would definitely try it.

Hi, I can sympathise with how annoying it is, especially if you know you're not the one that scratched it. I've had scratches appear on my monitor and phone when no-one had even gone near them - and it does linger in the back of your mind that you have a £XXX gadget that's not perfect.
Anyway I know you don't want to return it and I can see the reason why. Just thought I'd add another thought though that should you try to return it after you've tried cosmetic repairs, they may not accept it due to your 'improvements' on the original unit.
Just a thought, but as said above the waxing and polishing should work, I've seen word about it myself around the net.
