I wouldn't use WD40 for that. It acts more as a degreaser than a lubricant and therefore might have the opposite effect. When I searched how to clean my bike chain very often people suggest to use WD40 to clean the chain and afterwards use a lubricant.0 -
This blog post suggests that the use of WD-40 to lubricate a shredder might not be the best idea:

I think the fact my domestic shredder is over 5 years old indicates that I've been looking after it perfectly well.0 -
I used to give my waste to my daughter when she was a toddler, she could turn an A4 sheet into thousands of tiny, tiny triangles with a pair of Mothercare scissors in a mater of moments. The only downside was the mess.
Sadly she's now 25, I need a new shredder. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

1) Ensure shredder's bin is empty
2) Outside, spray clean sheet of A4 paper with WD40 or Screwfix chain lubricant
3) Shred sprayed sheet
There are lubrication sheets available that are pre-soaked in the correct oil (not as moneysaving as your way though).

Don't waste your money on expensive 'specialist shredder oil'.
Use cheap rapeseed oil (aka canola oil).
Have a look at the ingredients list for Fellowes hyper-expensive specialist oil:
