I agree with both above posts.

it is alright moaning and crying about Ebay taking buyers side all the time. If they didn't though then there would be a lot less buyers. Ebay has the tag "FleaBay" as many people think what you buy will be rubbish and you will be ripped off.

It is unfair though sometimes. I guess Ebay do not have the resources to look in to each dispute. If they did then fees would be a lot more than they are now. Personally I would rather have a few buyers (who I can block) take advantage than have no-one buying from me at all.

What is unfair though, is that if you resolve an issue without Ebay getting involved with an opened case. You still end up being punished with a defect. This does not seem fair at all.
  • Well, I explained why I was not accepting the return and the buyer now messaged me to say they'd been buying for many years and I am the rudest person they have ever come across :o:o and of course left negative feedback, ahh well life goes on...:D

Unfortunately that was always a likely possibility.

The defect associated with the negative, and the neg itself will push you down Best Match and may put off some buyers (not all) and may actually cost you bids and therefore money.

Keep an eye on your defect rate for the next few weeks, it can take a while to update. If this is the only defect you have it shouldn't hurt you even as a small seller, but if there are any others it could ultimately lead to you not being able to use free listing events.

Ebay is more like a catalogue now,if you don't like it or it don't fit just return it.
You can do that with any online retailer. Even though private sellers aren't necessarily legally obliged to do so, it's something you should expect to happen from time to time and have a way of dealing with it.

My way has always been to ask to return, usually at the buyer's expense, it's a hassle free way of doing it and often they don't bother anyway. I've had the odd surprise when someone has spent £5 returning an item they will be getting a £4 refund for!

  • An update on this, I rejected the return request, however now I have logged into eBay this morning to see a message saying the buyer has asked us to step in and review the case...followed by another message saying the buyer won the case and they are returning it, how is this even possible if I rejceted the return?

Did you formally close the request ?

  • Yes I did, i'm on live chat at the moment and they just said ''Please be guided that once a return request has been escalated this will turn into item not as described request" but I closed the request, i don't even know how this is possible!
They're not helping at all, they just said I have to accept the parcel when it comes and I now refund the original posting cost too
