As long as you are careful then XP will run like a dream on that spec.
  • Add more memory , stick with W7 (assuming it is a valid copy), you may get a free update to W10 too, which is a good option from what I have seen thus far, but 7 is still the best OS microsoft have realeased thus far

the 10 update may or may not be a good thing, I haven't had a spare machine of good enough spec to try the beta so reserving judgement ;)

as for 7 being the best....possibly, XP was pretty damn good too :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Another vote for staying clear of the abomination that is Vista.
Any laptop I've installed Windows 7 on (rather than the supplied Vista) has run better.

Well I don't have Windows 7 but Vista is fine for me.

I simply don't use Windows Explorer, but Firefox and Chrome instead.

A quick Google shows the Lenovo supports up to 4GB of RAM so like the others have suggested I'd upgrade that first.

I think you mean Internet Explorer not Windows Explorer. Internet Explorer is a Web browser like Chrome or Firefox. Windows Explorer is the file browser in Windows.
