I'm struggling here. Why did you pay someone £700 to not fix your car?
The normal procedure is that the mechanic comes and diagnoses the fault, then quotes you a repair price (for parts and labour). You accept it, he then repairs it. Or, you reject it and pay him a diagnostic fee only.
In this case, a key stage seems to have been left out...
Both these mechanics are either clueless incompetents, or saw you coming.
It's not rocket science to do basic diagnostics to find out why a car won't start (e.g. the electrical system, fuel system etc): that's what a mechanic is supposed to do, not just blindly fit parts and hope it works.
What parts have they actually replaced so far, and what are they now proposing to fit that costs another £500.?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

We have the same car that I was writting about 1.5 years ago. We bought it with 3500 . I looked online a few months ago and it in the region of 3000 . DOES THIS REALLY MATTER TO MY PROBLEM ?
That I am desperate and do not know if it's worth putting a lot more money into having it repaired if there are no guarantees. If I should give up now or not....
Yes, that is vital to your problem.
If a car is worth £3000 then it is worth spending, say, £2000 to get it fixed. [Even if you then sell it you'll have made more than you would have done if you scrapped it.]
If it was bought for £3000 two years ago then it was probably only worth £2000 at the time and may well only be worth £800 now. In which case probably not worth spending £2000 on.

I don't get it. Why are you so sure that a £3000 car was surely worth only 2000 (if there are 20 cars on the market that make, year, whatever with that price they are all over priced and you are the only one that knows the real price ?)
I have checked ads with similar cars and that is the market price. not "your evaluation"

I admit I am being desperate and tricked by crappy mechanics now. They have put a diagnostic: I have paid the part that they said it's going to make it work. he changed. it doesn't work. I can have a argument with them. eventually go to court and get my money back for the diagnostic as it was wrong. I still have bought the part and I am out of pocket.

I'm not so sure of that at all. That's why I said "probably".
I think that it is likely because that's my experience of buying second hand cars - they're not actually worth what you pay for them.

But my point is that the current value is very relevant as to whether to get it fixed or not. The real question is what it is worth to you, so it doesn't even matter what I think it is worth.
I think the point of the person who asked if that was the purchase price 2 years ago was for you to consider what it is actually worth.

If you are happy that it is worth £3000 to you then I'd say don't scrap it.

    it won't start at all.
We have changed the crank sesnor (?) and the ignition coil
  • I would of thought that the meere they just replacing random bits?

What happened when it broke down, running then stopped?

You need to get this picked up on a recovery lorry (as some autos dont like being towed) and have a proper mechanic look at it.

Or advertise it on the e-bay for repairs and repairs, non-running for a start bid of £150 and sell it, you can leave it in the parking lot.....
