  • Where horsepower determines how fast a vehicle can travel, torque at the wheels determines how quickly that speed can be reached. The greater the torque figure, the faster the acceleration.

The more horsepower usually the more torque as well to go with it.

I think the OP made the right choice between the two. :)

Yes the 2 figures maybe linked, torque alone is not enough though, dervs can have high torque but the limited revs limit the final power delivery so it's all over too quickly.

    LOL

I'd like to see Avoriaz explain the difference between power and torque in practical terms rather than some text book answers. Tell op what the difference is to her situation..
I wasn't answering the OP's question. That would have been a bit pointless as his (or her) question was about bhp, the question had already been adequately answered and he/she had posted several hours earlier that he/she had already bought the 105 bhp car.

I was responding to this rather curiously worded post.
    The 105bhp is pokier.

BHP is judged by the torque of if using the gears for braking (I think).

You can LOL at that if you wish. :D

Easier solution, BHP says how fast you can get from 0-60 Torque says if you can do the same 0-60 with a caravan attached :)

Now you have seen inside the mind of a caravanner :)

    Or alternatively ...

Torque - how fast you can get going

BHP - how fast you can go once you are going

BHP is how fast you hit the wall
Torque is how far you take it with you. :D

[STRIKE]Torque[/STRIKE] Momentum is how far you take it with you. :D

    Momentum is velocity*mass
Torque is displacement factor (distance from middle of axle to tyre tread in the case of a car) * Force (BHP possibly in the same case) *X facote ( a product of angle of force aplication)
