the meter may have been removed by the previous owner because it was THEIR meter or more likely it was either stolen or the property was rented out and the landlord didn't want gas in the property (cooking, c/h etc) so didn't have to pay annual testing (tho as its only around £50 this is unlikely)
my daughter recently had the same issue - it was tested for free by Transco and a meter supplied and installed for free by her nominated supplier0 -
Back the 1980s, I had my gas meter removed by the Gas Board, as it was leaking. I had just moved in, and there was a smell of gas so they took it out. They replaced it free with another gas meter.
There may be many reasons why a gas meter is removed. Can you ask the vendor the reason?0 -
Thanks for your messages.
Concern is over there is gas to the property and the seller when I met him has said he has arranged for the provider to provide a meter which should be done tomorrow. So will be checking tomorrow so kind of relieved.
Thanks for everyones input xoxo0 -
when i bought my house , nearly 2 years ago the owner of the house had everything running on electric , when i asked him if he got gas , he told me that the main pipe of gas is outside door and even had a small box in the wall for gas meter , but he never bothered to get gas . i ring my utility provider which told me to ring the gas people to check where the main gas pipe ends .. and after that the provider will fit me a gas meter for free . Main thing and expensive - check where you main gas pipe is , or in your case if the property you wanna buy it was connected to the gas before .Thanks for your messages.

just an example : if the main pipe is across the road , to bring it to your door step will cost you over £5k .0
