Warning. Dont use Lloyds

Just a warning don't choose Lloyds for your bank account.

I'm helping a friend close his account and so far it has taken 2 months with fees being racked up in the meantime. They have lost all the three letters he sent and he has been into the branch twice and they filled in forms.
THEY ARE A NIGHTMARE!

And they still have not closed it. AVOID!

So just because you have had a problem with them, others should avoid them...... Hmmmm I think not.

I've personally not had a problem with them in all the years I've had an account with them.

If there is fees on the account, they wont close it until all fees are paid and the account is up to date.

Perhaps this is why Lloyds won't close the account as your friend owes them money from the fees the account has!!!
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

Having given your advice due consideration, I've decided to keep using Lloyds...the main reason being that to "avoid" them would cost me around £157 a year, and the price of half a dozen cinema tickets.

    I hope you don't mind. :)

What fees? How can a delay with closing result in fees?
You don't even need to close it - just pay what you owe and abandon it.
If it's a pay-for account, downgrade it to a free one without any letters.
  • I'm with Halifax, since 2008 part of the LLoyds's group. In two years they haven't been able to change my address, despite having gone to the branch multiple times. They seem to adopt a zero customer service policy.

I can't speak for Lloyd's but I have noticed a marked turn for the worse since 2008. Coincidence?
  • Another happy customer here; not going to leave.

The OP's friend should do well out of the compensation that Lloyds will pay him as a result of any incompetent actions.

I'm surprised your formal complaint, and subsequent escalation to the FOS, didn't get matters resolved swiftly.

Or maybe you didn't think the issue was worthy of a formal complaint?

Cannot make a formal complaint because they do not keep a record of my visits to the branch and when I have insisted they've called me a liar.

    Nonsense!...

One letter/secure message/phone call after their first failure to action your request would have resolved the issue.

I have never had a real issue with Lloyds and banked with them since Feb 1984. IMHO they are one of the best banks to do business with.
  • All banks are going to have issues like this.
