    TD,

You don't mention whether you crew longhaul or shorthaul services, although I suspect the former if you see engineers on return to 'base' - the aircraft has probably been away from home for 24 hours so is probably due it's next check. Engineers will, however, always be summonsed by the Captain if he/she has concerns about the aircraft's suitability to operate the next service.

Can I recommend you ask to accompany one of the pilots on their next 'walk round' - you'll see there's a lot more to it than just stretching their legs or topping up on their tan!

Im on shorthaul my love, 4 - 6 joyous sectors a day so no its not been away for 24 hours, usually about 3. My company isn't under the British CAA so maybe its different, although my previous airline was. Anyway we get checked every 2 sectors (although im sure sometimes the engineers get on just for a cuppa!)

I have done walk arounds of my own as i started to do my PPL a few years back and i quite often ask the Capt or F/O to show me what they are doing and ask them lots of 'irritating' questions about what they are doing, My ex partner was a Captain, i was with him for 3 years and i would never ever downgrade what a pilot does for a living, i know how hard you all work to get where you are. I know its not just "Stretching your legs or topping up your tan" I would NEVER imply it was anything else and im sorry if you felt i was saying it was meaningless, i dont think i implied that???:confused:

Im actually quite hurt that you think we dont know what you do?? Ive been doing my job for a long time as im sure you have and i think i have enough experience to know when my engineers do work and that your walk around is not just a gentle stroll to get some fresh air!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Maybe you and i need to go on a virtual CRM course together im feeling tension between us!
Ill meet you in the virtual hotel bar   Obviously with a long rest period between as we wouldnt drink and fly!

Sorry if i peed u off :o:o didnt mean to :o:o

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend I just meant hypothetically, it would be just my luck to get irritated by someone and it be someone I know! :D You know people annoy you in real life, you come on here to get away and bingo there they are!!! :D

Sorry if I offended you Mr WiseInvestor, just when Trollydolly mentioned that you could be an ex it got me thinking about perhaps coming across someone I knew on here! And, knowing my luck if I did, it would be someone I would rather not come across! :D

:rotfl: Off topic so sorry but, not having met any pilots I imagine them all looking like that dodgy imposter pilot that Deirdre was conned by on Coronation Street! :D

Chill Pill well and truly taken :D

    TD,
We all work hard and it's great you like to get involved! Flying can be nerve-wracking and a good understanding of the aircraft you're on is very comforting for the passengers. I can assure you questions are never 'irritating' - you're only too aware of how much we like to talk about planes! :D

I like your invite to the virtual hotel bar

No Thanks, Im done with Pilots!

So to get back on topic,

Just wanted to say, I gave that website to a very scared passenger yesterday, hopefully it will help him. Bless he had a panic attack, although he flies with us twice a week and is fine usually, although a little nervous. I think he was panicing more because he didnt know why he was panicing if you catch my drift!

Hey wiseinvester have you ever done microburst simulation on a err simulator?

Saw a cracking program on tv where they give it a pilot out of the blue to see how he handled it. He was only about 2000 feet up and dropping at like 500 feet a second, got away with it though very impressive.

My GP was happy to prescribe Valium to me. I usually take one about an hour before flying and although I can't say it totally gets rid of the panic it does help.

In some cases I have actually been known to enjoy the flight, usually when we are flying over somewhere interesting like the Alps, or when we flew into Rome and saw all the sights from the air.
