Brooker Dave you really need a hobby other than spending your nights on Google looking for reasons to attack Ebay. Maybe you should try Ebid, they let anyone sell on that.

I thought it was interesting that the Paypal research revealed that most people pretending not to have received what they had ordered were one off scammers, and that they seem to think they are sellers who've been bummed by someone else, trying to recoup their loss.

Whereas most of the reports of ebay cheats on here seem to involve serial scammers?

  • The ones that I detect are serial scammers because I find them by speaking to all the other sellers who have dealt with them and I only do so because they exhibit all the tell tale signs of such. It's a one off one I wouldn't pick up on necessarily.

Actually, I think that is a serious question- and nothing to do with how good or bad ebay is generally. There is a report somewhere , but I can't even hazard a guess who wrote it or what the journal was, that suggested if you are scammed, or lose money in any situation you feel it makes it allowable somehow to do the same back.

I recall this being discussed on an Amazon board many years ago about book condition. If you sell a book that you believe is good, and buyer marks you down because he believes the book is merely acceptable- how likely are you to knock a star off the seller of the next book you receive in turn? Your brain is telling you in some way that you are the only honest person- and that book you just bought that was sold as 'very good' is really only good and THIS time you are jolly well going to ding their stars.

The same I suspect happens on ebay - you get a low star for delivery- so if that day you have an item turn up a day later than expected your mood tells you to give them a defect almost 'to make it fair'

I have always hated selling to other sellers who buy and sell on the same account and where I can see they have very poor stars or feedback.

Take that one step further and perhaps it does explain the one off 'scammer' who is basically doing it almost as revenge
