Oh, I thought you meant another.

Yes, I have spoken with them - they said as my notice to npower wasn't in writing, it puts my case in the grey area. Although they said they are unable to bill that was for over 2 years ago though npower say they have been trying to find me since but I've not seen any proof of this.

I'm still waiting to hear back from them before moving on to ombudsman.

I had something similar from a water company, believe it or not. I sold my flat in 2013 and in January this year I received a bill from them for unpaid water rates. I rang them and queried why I had received this bill as I had notified them in June 2013 that I was no longer living at the address and no longer the landlord either. They checked their records and found that I had indeed told them I had left. They said that the new landlady had never registered her details with them and neither had the tenants. I said well I'm afraid that's not really my problem. They wanted the details of the new owner/landlady/tenants which I did not have. They sent me another bill the following month and I repeated my response. They eventually stopped sending me bills when I told them that to continue doing so would constitute harassment as I had already proven to them that I was not the account holder.

I'm pleased you got it sorted and thank you for sharing.

The only reason this has come back on me is because I phoned npower instead of putting it in writing that I was leaving said business and now they claim they have no record of this call.

I have written evidence from the business partner at the time stating when I left as well as the lease owner of the property, I also have confirmation of that same date from the council as I told them I was leaving therefore no longer liable for the tax on the building, I also have my income proof for that year showing no income from said business. My name has not been on a single payment of any kind related to the business since my leaving date so it makes no sense that they claim its my debt.

I am hoping to hear back from npower soon, either way I can see it will need escalating.
