Wi-Fi and SKY

Options
I have been with Sky for some time and pay £83 pm, but also pay £40 to Virgin for broadband and phone line. We have 3 boxes in the house, but could possibly reduce this and save money.

First thing would be to get the broadband and line rental within the Sky package, but the main question is, rather than having a conventional box - that can record etc, another box is available to view in another room. However, is it possible just to link another TV by wi-fi in the other room if only wanting to watch what is on the main TV that has the box?

If this was possible, it would save having to have another box.

On some TVs yes, on others no.

A friend found that the telly in the living room can receive BB but not the one in his bedroom. He now has the box connected in the bedroom and one of those IR extension thingies to operate it by remote control from the living room. He would have swapped tellies round but a 98" telly overpowers the bedroom somewhat!

Thanks. I would think that a 98" telly would overpower most rooms.

    Sky TV link, around £10.

If you have a new Sky +HD box you'll need an I-O adabpter as well £10.

    Sky GO.

Watch on a tablet or PC. It is possible to connect the mobile device to a TV via HDMI or some kind of mirroring across the network.

Thanks, that was what I was wanting. I have just been reading abouth Sky Go and linked my iPad to it and trying the PC next. Just need to get a similar system for a TV in the kitchen. Do I need a particular type of TV, or will a connection by WiFi do it?

I find "Smart" is a very nebulous description.

Wi-Fi (wireless) and Ethernet (wired) should make no difference, other than speed achievable.

Suck it and see, I'm afraid.

Don't think Sky allow the use of HDMI out on tablet devices supporting Sky Go -I have to use VGA out on old laptop to watch on bedroom TV, with sound via headphone socket.

I have a laptop that does a mirroring output on the HDMI port.
I think it's for doing presentation on a projector.

...Yes, seems to work if you use a laptop running some flavour of Windows and "mirror" the browser window....but if you use the Sky Go app on a tablet which is compatible (and not rooted) then the HDMI output is disabled -you can't even install the Sky Go app on a rooted tablet.:(:(
PS I use the VGA output because my ancient laptop hasn't got HDMI:rotfl:

    VGA is wonderful stuff.

My projector has a VGA port, and it comes with a SCART to VGA adapter. This means that I can play content from old equipment with SCART RGB output.

Shame it doesn't work with computer monitors. If it did, I could have hooked up an old Amstrad Sky Digibox (Pre-HD) to an old VGA monitor.
