Get onto the HA.
What you going to say to them if/when he comes through the ceiling putting it right?0 -
The HA need to know about work done on their property. Its likely they will send their own surveyors to assess the work. If the work is done properly I doubt they will have any complaints but they should be notified. Any dispute will be between the HA and the neighbor or builder and shouldn't reflect on you in any way..
As for the mess in the loft its difficult to do a tidy job from only one side of the wall. It would have been polite for the builder to advise your stuff needs moving but its unlikely to have been a priority for him.0 -
I would phone the local building control depatment (building regs folks) asap, get them around to your MIL's house to have a look, they will take it from there.
Its a fire risk, and a structural risk.0 -
This is what needs to happen, You need to contact the HA as it is their house that has been "damaged", You will need to inform the LA (local Authority) buildings department and ask to speak with a regulations control inspector.
The HA don't have in house buildings and grounds surveyors the term surveyor is a job description within the HA of a person who inspects minor defects and then seeks approval from the maintenance manager to approve works, basically the person is not qualified to base any decision about any structural works what so ever they use LABC http://www.labc.co.uk/ for consultancy for structural and other works structural works with the LA. You need to speak with the HA's maintenance MANAGER who will need to meet onsite with the building regs inspector and a LABC surveyor.
Do not let the builder into the house to "make good", go through proper channels and express urgency that it needs to be looked at ASAP.0 -
I'm beginning to think this is a wind-up0

I can assure you that this is not a wind up. I have taken several photos that I will try to get online and post a link for you all to see.
The MIL will ring the HA first thing in the morning as the day was spent at a family funeral.
