Lloyd's Club Account and contactless cards

The Lloyds site FAQ couldn't give me an answer and there's no way of emailing them if you're not a customer but does this account give you a contactless card optout?
I'm not interested in the merits I just want to switch to a new bank and opt out, especially since Nationwide just foisted this on me for my current account (which I've had for 20 years). I'm now prepared to move accounts given lots of other hassles and deceit I've had from them - this is the straw that broke the camel's back.
BTW Nationwide's press releases say they will allow opt out, or allow opt out by start of 2015 which would attract new switchers but this is more deceit, they don't have one at the moment, and just have an airy fairy date now of sometime this year. Hardly "on your side", unless they're referring to on my bad side

a contactless card optout?
Are you handy with a soldering iron?!

I really am intrigued as to why some people are so anti contactless?
In what other way has Nationwide deceived you? I believe you won't get contactless if you go for a basic bank account. Perhaps that is the way to go?0 -
Just found this on the Lloyds site for you. Best not bother moving to them.
"Lloyds Bank debit cards come with contactless technology. Look for the symbol on the front of your card."

It's becoming harder to find non contactless cards. The last I heard there wasn't a high street bank that isn't replacing all cards with contactless when they are renewed.
Maybe it's worth looking at smaller providers? For example Norwich and Peterborough Building Society don't currently have contactless cards (mine was renewed in December). I imagine other building societies around the country might be similar.0 -
What's the issue with contactless cards?
You don't have to pay contactless if you don't want to.0 -
The issue is security, it's hardly rocket science! If you lose your card and don't notice for a few hours then it is relatively easy for someone to spend a lot of money in small transactions in that time, and I bet the card holder will not be covered in that instance.
I didn't realise you have to opt OUT of contactless, or that it might not even be possible to do so. That is worrying to say the least!'I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my father. Not screaming and terrified like his passengers.' (Bob Monkhouse).
Sky? Believe in better.
Note: win, draw or lose (not 'loose' - opposite of tight!)0 -
Do you really think the card issuers and banks haven't thought about security? Especially as it is them, in the main, that carry the risk, not the cardholder.Spidernick wrote: »The issue is security, it's hardly rocket science!
how often has that happened? How often have cardholders lost how much money that way?Spidernick wrote: ».............. it is relatively easy for someone to spend a lot of money in small transactions.......
Instead of just making up scare stories, how about reading up about contactless security? E.g.http://www.visa.co.uk/products/visa-contactless/faqs0 -
I usually get asked to verify my pin about every five transactions if I have only used chip and pin in the meantime.
"What if a Visa contactless card gets lost or stolen? Isn’t it like writing a blank cheque to a fraudster?"
"No. Although it looks very simple to make a transaction, Visa contactless cards are protected in many different ways.
Each participating contactless bank sets a limit on the number or value of Visa contactless transactions that can be made before a cardholder is asked to do a normal chip and PIN transaction. If you are a regular user of Visa contactless, you may have noticed this happening – as, every now and then, you will be asked to verify your transaction with your PIN to prove that it is you in possession of your card.
And, just like any other Visa transaction, your bank is routinely looking out for any unusual transactions that may show that it is not you using your card. You will get the same level of protection as any other Visa Debit or Visa Credit transaction. And, if your card is lost or stolen, the card will be blocked by your bank instantly.
If your card is lost or stolen you should notify your bank as soon as possible. If anyone has fraudulently used your contactless card to make a payment, providing you take reasonable precautions to protect your card and let your bank know as soon as you realise it’s gone, you will not be responsible for any losses incurred (subject to your bank’s terms and conditions)."0 -

You can opt out with Lloyds well you used to be able to anyway.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
They could well have changed but I received a Lloyds contactless debit card in April last year. 'Phoned up and requested a "normal" card and they sent one without question.
These threads almost always end up with questions as why people don't want contactless technology and arguments about security.
Personally, I simply have no use for one, would never use one and don't want one - the end.0
