Lloyd's Club Account and contactless cards

  • I got a new card through the post when we changed to the club account which was not contactless, OH got a new one at the same time which was (joint account). I phoned and asked for a contactless one and was sent one immediately. So you do have a choice.

The issue is security, it's hardly rocket science! If you lose your card and don't notice for a few hours then it is relatively easy for someone to spend a lot of money in small transactions in that time, and I bet the card holder will not be covered in that instance.

I didn't realise you have to opt OUT of contactless, or that it might not even be possible to do so. That is worrying to say the least!

Totally agree. They are now raising the limit to £30 a day - so say you lose or drop your wallet with 3 cards in it. That could be £90 of your cash gone - without anyone providing a PIN but just going into any shop or cafe and swiping it.

Your bank fraud team might spot it - but it can be done very quickly.

Some people like them - fine- but I would rather take 2 seconds more to put in a PIN. Even if the bank pay up it could potentially take you over drawn and cause other issues.
  • if you don't want a contactless card then your quite welcome to apply for a basic bank account.

I thought you had to activate the contactless feature by using the pin first time. IE: Touch against contactless pad and then it asks you to use pin and after that the card works contactlessly.

The only debit card I have now that does not have it is the Halifax one but that is not due to be replaced until next year when I have no doubt it will be.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
  • Yes I have a contactless Club Lloyds debit card - you can opt out if you prefer.
Makes no odds to me because I only use it as a cashpoint card - any other spending goes on a cashback credit card.

I take it you never have any cash on you then? As if you lose or drop your wallet, your cash will be gone (with no chance to get a penny back from the bank, as you would have in the case of cards).

Not quite right. When you get a new contactless card, you have to make at least one normal chip and pin transaction before the contactless feature becomes active. You do not have to attempt a contactless transaction to activate the contactless feature.

I have never been asked for a pin when making contactless purchases.
