need a comfortable sporty looking car

My wife and I have a sports car, we have retired and my wife has a back problem, the run flat tyres and the hard suspension give her a problem and we have been hiring cars until she gets better but it looks like thats not going to happen soon but wife does not want to part with our car so need to find a comfortable sporty looking car that she would be happy with so looking for any recommendations, good mpg also as only get 30 to 32 mpg on the present car.
don't want to pay more than £7000 for say 2007 model of whatever less than 60,000 miles.
Would be grateful for any sensible ideas

Maybe a clue as to what you have now and whats the actual problem?

Sporty cars tend to have hard suspension and rubber bands for tyres. Got for the same model but with a higher ratio tyre.

Instead of a 40 profile tyre go for a 60 profile if they have one in that cars range. Usually means dropping down a size though. So if you have 18" 40 profile tyres then a 17" at 45 or 50, or a 16" at a 50,55 or 60 profile may fit.

The bigger sidewall will give a bit more comfort.

above there are 2 hard top convertables and one soft top (but mazda do a hard top cover you can buy) to get any money back on resale sell in the spring summer when no longer needed. and before someone points the obvious yes OP didn't specify a convertible but I cant think of anything at the moment that looks sporty without laughing at its brick like design uhum astra GTC for example.

I think MPG would vary depending on many varying factors, if your offers 30 32 at the moment based on drive style and habbits I think that's just about how its going to fair up with other vehicles that are sporty looking cars tend to have a minimum of a 1.6 engine in them unless you vauxhaull and you can have a sporty looking corsa with a 1.2 engine that's all looks and no go.

I have an earlier model of MX-5 which I got for a bit of fun after I decided to give up the bikes. It's a brilliant car, plenty of cheeky attitude, and a lot of reading round the forums suggests that they are generally very reliable. My wife has serious back issues (I mean serious) but for some reason she can get in and out of it fairly easily with a bit of patience. However, I would describe the ride as firm, like a little roller skate. I have 'normal' tyres, but with any sporty car there isn't going to be Land Rover amounts of suspension movement, and you're going to feel the bumps. But if you want sporty, that goes with the territory, I think.

Totally agree with the Maxda MX-5 recommendation. Fun, reliable, sporty-looking car which is an absolute joy to drive! Good luck with the search.

For comfort, you'd be steering towards something larger and waftier.

You might squeeze something like a lesser-spec Mercedes CL class into your budget.

Anything small and sporty will be jarring.

Following on from that how about a Chrysler Crossfire? Mercedes engine and underpinnings, relatively cheap. Interior lets it down a little but great bang for your buck.

Why not get non-runflat tyres (even go up a profile too) and have your own cars suspension softened? Not just easy to do, but you already like the thing.

I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there are only two retail cars that I've clung on to far too long before admitting defeat. A Rover 800 coupe and a Chrysler Crossfire. Both so, rightly, limited in their appeal that the supporters clubs hold their meetings, at the same time, in a phone box.

The car we have at present is a BMW Z4 3.0SI roadster, like the look of the crossfire but the mpg is worse than the Z4, will try and get her interested in a Mercedes C class diesel, if it was just me I would look at a Seat Leon 2.0TDI but it's a non starter with her indoors

What type of driving and how many miles do you do? You really need to be doing in excess of 20000m per year to make a diesel more cost effective.
