Energy company from previous address demanding money

Whilst it's not as serious as your case, I've just had Scottish Power deduct £4.42 from my Direct Debit 4 months after leaving my previous address, and all final bill readings were given. Despite their having my email and forwarding address they made no contact, just took a random payment - and not on the date when my previous Direct Debits were taken. Icontacted Scottish Power and, after 'checking with the back room' they told me it was their new computer system which generated the charge and I owed it. I asked for evidence and confirmation in writing that I owed this amount or a refund and whilst the telephone operator was again 'checking with the backroom' she cut me off. I know it's a small amount, and I've now cancelled that Direct Debit, but it is suspect - trouble is Scottish Power are such a nightmare to try to make contact with!0

That in itself sounds ridiculous too. How can they take money out of your account just like that when you have cleared what you owe with them.
At this moment in time i am not that worried as this whole thing is just ridiculous!
But i will be contacting isupplyenergy on monday to get to the bottom of this.
But its just annoying how we as the consumer have to take time and money out of our day to try and clear this matter up.0 -

Contact your bank and ask for a refund of the payment under the direct debit guarantee.0
