I pay £100 for a student permit and I've been fined by UKPC

Quoting the regulations:
as above , they really do need legal advice
sanctions are not above the law , the law is what counts here, so unless they are a judge and quoting the law (like what will happen after the Beavis court case at the COA next week ) , they really need to !!!!!! and let the adults deal with it
so unfair contracts , trespass, only allowed to claim the losses incurred , not allowed to issue a fine or a penalty , see if they know the law on those issues because if they do they should be on the judges circuit earning a lot of money and not where they are now
if and when you beat this at popla, take a copy to the fools you spoke to and see their reactions when confronted with the legal decision in black and white
maybe take a copy of the Beavis outcome if it favours your case , just to rub their noses in it0 -
Stephen,
If the conditions actually say:
"Vehicles not displaying a current vehicle permit will be deemed not to be registered and subject to sanctions."
then I believe you have a clear cut case. This is a penalty/fine/punishment, and they are daft enough to call it for what it is. UKPC does not have the gift to levy monetary 'sanctions' upon you.
That fact that you had paid, can prove you had paid, and therefore no loss was incurred, would see you win in court, were they stupid enough to take it that far.Optimists see a glass half full
Pessimists see a glass half empty

One thing I haven't considered is that I'm not the registered keeper of the car, it's my parents'.
And thinking about it again, £60 to silence these guys would be a lot less hassle for me than having to explain to my parents to ignore the threatening letters they receive in the post.0 -
I hope you're not fronting.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

No, I am the main driver, but not the owner/keeper.0 -

Well you could always write to them outing yourself as the driver, then you get to ignore them!
Paying these scum does a huge disservice to all their future potential victims. If no-one paid they'd be out of business tomorrow.Je suis Charlie.0 -

Every piece of advice I've read on here explicitly states that you should never give yourself away as the driver, so what happens when you do?0 -

You make it a bit easier for them to sue you. It's no big deal though: if you appeal using the approach advised in this forum you will win at PoPLA and it'll get nowhere near a court anyway (and even if you mess it up and lose at PoPLA - which will not happen if you do as advised - UKPC don't sue anyway).Je suis Charlie.0 -
