virgin missold

Options
hi all
i signed up for virgin media at the end of january when they were offering me netflix free for 6 months.
when it was installed on 14 feb 15 the engineer told me that it wasnt available that day as virgin send a code out a week later to make sure people dont cancel virgin and get netflix for free.
now today i ask the support how to get it activated and someone called "john" says its not available.
first he says it ended on 2 feb and i signed up 14 feb but when i pointed out that was the date of the installation he says there are no notes on my account and i cant have it.
when i said this was mis-selling or fraud he said as netflix is a free service it has no value so i am not losing out. but the point is i was offered a 6 mth service which i now have to pay for.
to me this is underhand and fraudulent.
i cant be the only person affected.
i kept a transcript of the call because i dont trust them now.
i thought something carrying the Branson ident had more integrity.

Did the terms of the offer state it was only valid on installations done up to the 2nd?

Thats the only get out clause I can think of that they might possibly use.

As for branson having integrity. Sure, he has been convicted of tax evasion but he obviously became a billionaire by being a nice honest guy :) However, he sold virgin media in 2013.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

It looks like it is a voucher for 6 months free Netflix that can be claimed until April 2015 according to this website (post 1 has the terms and conditions).
    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/free-netflix-for-6-months-with-virgin-media-new-existing-customers-2027915

I would email the CEO Tom Mockridge, as although it gets passed to a member of the executive team, I have found in the past when dealing with Virgin Mobile, that any problems are quickly resolved. Maybe something along the lines of:

    Dear Mr Mockridge,
    Ref: Virgin Media Account Number:

I purchased a Virgin Media package that included a voucher for 6 months free Netflix on ?Jan2015. The package was installed on 14 February 2015 and I was told to ring up to obtain my voucher for Netflix. I rang up and spoke to John in Virgin Media's Customer Services who has informed me that I am not entitled to the 6 months free Netlflix as my package was installed in February.

The terms of the conditions of the offer clearly stated
"Netflix offer: Available to new customers taking the Big Easy bundle and above. One voucher per household. Redeemable by Virgin Media account holder only. Voucher must be redeemed by 29th April 2015. Offer available until at least 29th January 2015, subject to limited availability while stocks last, we reserve the right to withdraw this offer at any time. Offer is not redeemable or refundable for cash and cannot be exchanged for Netflix Gift Subscriptions. Limit of one promotion will be applied towards each monthly membership fee for your Netflix account. For details go to virginmedia.com/netflix.

New Netflix customers: You’ll need to register with a valid email address and accept Netflix’s terms and conditions of use (netflix.com/termsofuse). Access to the service at no additional cost lasts 6 months from the date you redeem your voucher code.

Existing Netflix customers: You will get a 6-month break from charges from Netflix. At the end of the 6 months Netflix will recommence charging. Netflix usually retails from £5.99 a month".

I am obviously disappointed that I have to contact you at the start of my contract with Virgin Media to sort out an issue and hope that I can look forward to receiving my Netflix 6 month voucher as soon as possible.

I look forward to your reply
    Kind Regards

We are not allowed to put email addresses in the forum posts but it will be the CEO's first name, a fullstop surname @virginmedia.co.uk or on this googlesearch link.

Let us know how you get on, but hopefully this will sort out the issue.
  • i just spoke to julian in netflix
he says there offer with virgin was only running until the end of december 14
so they should not have been offering the deal in january
that they sold an amount of packages to virgin

if this is true they should have acted faster to get virgin to remove the offer.

even more unhappy that 2 large companies have been naughty

not owned by Mr Branston anymore , now owned by a US company....

Never really owned by Branson at all. Branson never owned more than 11% of Virgin Media and never had anything to do with running the business anyway. Branson now owns an even smaller share of Liberty Global.
  • no im happy to accept that

    its not branstons pickle
    its mine

he just did so many adverts for the product he is linked to its image

happy to repeat i like the guy

    just hate the company

Bit baffled by this, having read the thread title. Was the virgin you were mis-sold not actually one, or were you misled in some other way?
  • i switched from sky to virgin
i switched online at the end of january when they were offering on their web page 6 months free netflix.
    i signed up
at the time they were both offering similar priced packages so netflix was very much part of the decision.

otherwise i could have argued sky into retaining my subscription.
