Hi.
Wondering if anyone else has had problems moving from Talktalk to another provider? Recently my stepmother applied to move from TT to Plusnet. It was all arranged and then several days before the change over was due, TT cut off her service. This meant a delay in getting moved over to Plus net, days without a phone line and she lost her old number and was subject to reconnection charge (plusnet kindly paid this).
I descided to move, at last, to Plusnet and have been given a day for change over of service at beginning of March. A few days ago I received a letter from Talk Talk telling me to phone them if the request for a transfer is incorrect.
"We’ve received a request to transfer your TalkTalk services to another telecoms provider. We are treating this as notice that you would like to disconnect your TalkTalk account and pay us any outstanding charges.
You need to call us on 0870 087 8030* (free from your TalkTalk line) if you have not agreed to disconnect your service and move it to another provider."
They then explain costs if contract not ended, final bills etc.
So far so good!
However later on in the letter they say:
"Transfer of your service
If you don’t contact us your service will be disconnected. You may lose your existing telephone number and any other money saving products on your account."
Why do I need to call them? I have had awful service from them for 10 years ( have been too lazy to move providers). They insist on contact by telephone so that they can try to persuade me otherwise. Given what happened to my step mother, who did not call them about her move, this seems tantamount to a threat to disconnect me, take away my phone number and remove any money- saving features from my account for the remaining three weeks. Apparently they are within their rights to take away my number but why do it when other providers don't?
Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences and whether they are allowed to stipulate that I call them or else?

Is your TT contract finished ??
Did you ask TT for a MAC code to transfer ??0 -
MAC probably doesnt apply since you are more than likely on a LLU with Talk Talk.
Have a read of this

you are probably going from LLU to LLU (unless someone else can clarify what plus net proivde)0 -
No didn't need Mac number to move from talk talk to plus net. Just signed up with plus net and they did the rest0

If Talk Talk gave you your phone number originally then you may not be able to take it with you. Porting out your existing number from an LLU provider is problematic and very hit and miss.
If you give me the first 8 digits of your phone number I can tell you who the range holder is.0
