As long as the restaurant is liscensed for off-sales then yes, nothing wrong with taking what you've paid for.

If they only have a license for alcohol to be drunk on the premises then no you can't take it as it would be illegal.

EDIT: After a quick google it looks like the law was changed with the 2003 licensing act and there is no difference between on-sales and off-sales anymore.
  • If I've bought it but not drunk it all there's no way it's not coming home with me. Especially when wine is so much more expensive in restaurants than in the supermarket!
  • Yes.
    Do not understand the problem.
    You have paid for it!

Never have any left. I would take it home if such a fluke ever occurred though.

It's not that easy to circumvent the licencing laws. The law is not confused, with respect perhaps you are.

    Nope, not confused at all.
The licensing laws do not state that an opened bottle cannot be taken from the premises when it was clearly part of the meal.

Not that it matters anyway as another poster has made clear since the licensing act has changed.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

Should the answer be no, as you really ought to buy another full bottle, because it could otherwise be regarded as being like tax avoidance? :)
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)
  • It's your wine, you just bought it! Take it home and enjoy later, my wife and I ALWAYS order twice the quantity of food we need in Indian Restaurants and take the remainder home in "doggy bags". It tastes even better the day after!

Did you really need to ask this on a 'money moral dilemma' forum?

YES! IT IS FINE TO TAKE HOME SOMETHING YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR !
