Like for like £97 specsavers online, so still not ott for an optician, and still a branded product.
And the benefit of the fact our specsavers are a good optician, and are more than happy to help if you buy their products on line.

I can't tell you the size of the bottles, but it's 3 for £13, so if they compare to costco, they can't be too bad.

I notice a few people have mentioned solutions and cleaning..with reference to a couple of new contact lens users. I wonder why optometrists dont automatically try people out on disposable dailies first as surely they are the most hygienic solution rather than messing around trying to clean and reuse lenses or heaven ofrbid..using extended wear lenses?

For some of us we cant use dailies.

There are no dailies on the market atm that cater for me. The ones out there are not getting enough air to my eyes and I cant wear them. I have to used extended wear but only for 8 hours max - its the compromise I make to be able to wear contacts when I want to

And belive me Ive tried a lot of lenses - I was trailing for about 6 months before a prescription was sorted, and then within 4 months I had become totally intolerant to those and back to the drawing board

Now Im wearing a branded lens - via specsavers ( to make a point to quentin as he seems to be sure theres some conspiracy going on here )

    Your point is pointless!

(I didn't raise the issue of them using their own brand names, this was brought into the discussion by Altarf)!

For the record though, Specsavers only sell branded lenses.
Specsavers don't have an own brand product.
So Altarf wasn't correct on this point.
Even when they did, many years ago, there was no problem buying online, as it was well known what lenses they actually were.

Fair enough, it was a few years ago.

However if you looked at their website you would never know that they had changed their policy, as they still refer to "Star Price", "Standard", "Premium", and "Elite", rather than brand names.
  • Thanks for your post Altarf.

I like to save money but I am also interested in convenience.

I do not have a Costco membership and it would cost me in time and money to try and obtain one.
I'm not a fan of Tesco opticians. My current glasses were bought from one in Leeds and compared to SS the thoroughness of the test and over all service wasn't as good.
I had an eye test with Asda some years ago and it wasn't that thorough

In conclusion if the service I receive (and it's early days) is fine from SS then £13 a month is bearable.

I've had assessments from both asda and specsavers in recent years. They both appeared very thorough.

I have used GetLenses in the past and you can get £10 off for your first order and free delivery with this voucher code - TENWEG.

Interesting about these supermarket £10 contact lens checkups, I thought it was a standardish rate of about £35! Just rang my nearest Tesco store who have told me it is completely free at the minute. When I asked they said it didn't involve a trial or direct debit.

Must warn not to go to Scrivens Opticians as their prices are plain ridiculous! They wanted to charge £40 to join their direct debit scheme and £27 a month for monthly torics (excluding solution) when I have been paying £9 a month online.
