The Future - SMART Meter and Truly Variable Unit Prices

Hi brewerdave
Suspect the guy who did this job doesn't work for us but for another supplier who are the meter operators for your area. Mind you, if he does work for us, he must've been operating from a cave.
We started installing smart meters several years ago. To date, we've put in over 380,000 and are still going strong. We're aiming to top a million by the end of this year. There's quite a bit of information on our website about what we're doing.

Only just seen this Malc -he may live in a cage.....but he said that he had done a large number of replacements in this area of South Wales since Xmas...and all of them had been standard dumb meters.....perhaps the Celts don't qualify for SMART :rotfl:0 -
It's statements like this that worry me:
For electricity, the display automatically updates every five seconds, so it will show you what you’re using right now. It’s a great way to show your family what things cost, which may encourage them to save energy too.
Fathers have been doing this for years so I am not sure that having a Home Information Device is going to change behaviour by the £Bns that Government has based the smart meter roll-out on. My worry is that 'Granny' looks at the meter; takes fright and turns off the lights in the hall, and falls down the stairs. Ed Davey may be happy but Jeremy Hunt may have a different view.
As I have mentioned before, it is interesting to note what Germany thinks of the EU proposal to roll-out smart meters:
The EU proposal is “inadvisable” for Germany, the Economy Ministry said in a statement, citing a study it commissioned from consultants Ernst & Young. For users with low power consumption, the installation cost would be greater than the achievable energy savings, it said. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The piper always plays the tune, Ernst & Young will has found against for Germany because that's the outcome Germany wanted and paid for. Ernst & Young will find for the UK because that's the outcome UK GOV wanted and paid for.
Accounting scandals
Equitable Life (2004)
Bally Total Fitness (2008)
Anglo Irish Bank (2009)
Sons of Gwalia (2009)
Akai Holdings (2009) and Moulin Global Eyecare (2010)
Lehman Brothers (2010)
Standard Water (2013)
I agree with the German view of, and action taken against both the smart's and the equally noxious green[ing] initiatives. For users with low power consumption, the installation cost would be greater than the achievable energy savings, it said.
- lots of contrived cobblers here, much of the differences in cost are technical not real accounting issues
- the assumed 1/2 life of the meter, rather than actual differences, such as in installation or labour costs are flawed
- the costs range [E&Y] from €77 to €700, while the benefits are quoted as €18 to €654
- but they don't say what the actual real-time differences in installing and maintaining a meter are in say Latvia compared to Berlin are
- the really big savings are in “peak load shifting”, but “peak load shifting” is only really of benefit with windy-mill and other green garbage
- avoiding the need to invest in new power generation, which then is unused and kept idle to support windy-mills was supposed to be the big benefit
- but there is no "big benefit",Merkel's version of Al Gore’s inconvenient truth, clearly says green renewable URL="http://notrickszone.com/2014/04/27/angela-merkels-vice-chancellor-stuns-declares-germanys-energiewende-to-be-on-the-verge-of-failure/"]energiewende[/URL is dead - find another way - its dead !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Ah! I see. Not sure how many we've done in your neck of the woods brewerdave. Suspect not many and the chap you spoke to was probably right, standard dumb meters. This'll change though. Watch this space as they say or, more appropriately, the smart space on our website.
