My diary is in my sig, if you want to have a look ;)

What a great idea from FGN :j fingers crossed that it does the trick. The other option, of course, is to enjoy the cuddles while you can.. There aren't many 14 yr old lads that want to share a bed with dad, so you've only got a few years to go ;)

Love your ideas MB, you have a good perspective on how it can work for him.. even better than his health visitor actually. He does need a lot of reassurance and I don't want him to feel punished for not achieving things in the right time scale or whatever so like you say, it's more a case of building up and up at a nice pace but not like a 'snakes and ladders' thing that destroys his confidence. We have a bedwetting star chat and another one for staying at the table while he eats..
..So yeah health visitor is a big star chart fanatic! but L seems a little bit inconsistently motivated by them.. at first he loves it but seems to rapidly reach a couldn't care less approach to it, which is probably my fault for not keeping up enthusiasm or not providing proper incentive...
i find it hard sometimes to find a good balance with him, wanting him to be more independent but at the same time demonstrating to him that I'm not trying to distance myself from him for any ulterior motive (he had a fair bit of separation anxiety although that is improving).. he also struggles to convey what actually bothers him about stuff... often to the point where he lets it reach the point of 'meltdown' before the real issue comes out, if that makes any sense.
I think it will just be a lot of patience and consistency on my part when a lot of the time I just like to spare us both the drama of anything after a long day.

so another approach is required here, how about a money box something that is tangible and would teach saving also 10p per night, after 3 20p then a bonus at the end of the week? Find out what makes LL tick although thats easier said than done!

which is probably my fault for not keeping up enthusiasm or not providing proper incentive...no it isn't your fault! Life is challenging and in time LL will realise what a fantastic father you are, and how blessed he is to have you
i find it hard sometimes to find a good balance with him,I would like to meet the parent that hasn't felt this way, it's natural LL is changing daily as he grows wanting him to be more independent but at the same time demonstrating to him that I'm not trying to distance myself from him for any ulterior motive (he had a fair bit of separation anxiety although that is improving).. he also struggles to convey what actually bothers him about stuff... often to the point where he lets it reach the point of 'meltdown' before the real issue comes out, if that makes any sense. it does make sense, expressing emotion when you don't have the words can be extremely frustrating to everyone
I think it will just be a lot of patience and consistency on my part when a lot of the time I just like to spare us both the drama of anything after a long day.of course and who wouldn't? Sometimes a hug is all that is needed

You have some really great ideas to help LL Messy Betty!!

    And three cheers for FGN!!!:A

Thanks for mentioning the Noddle report Levi. I didn't know about it and have just done a search and found out it's free - although if yours is 2/5 mine will be at least MINUS 2/5!! Although I don't expect they will do minus figures so mine will be 0/5 I should think.

How long does it take to get it through? I think I should get it so I can keep an eye on "things" :o

Mixed success with star charts here! One is called 'Dd's yummy new foods chart'. Dd got a pen and CROSSED OUT the 'yummy'!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She says they are most certainly not yummy, so why have it on the title? After every 4, she gets a magazine, and it can take MONTHS for her to get there. Her new motivation - her choice - is to get a Syl Fam thing when the chart is full. 8 more to go... We have had this chart for about 4 years (!) and are only on sheet 2. Ho hum...

A more successful chart has been a 'chores chart' where she gets stickers for being helpful.

It's not demotivational when they don't get a sticker - they make a choice and we reassure that it doesn't matter if they can't do it this time.

Gor, what a witter - sorrrrrry!

    Good luck!

What a lovely FGN you have & what a brilliant idea! Did Superman make it through the night?

Thinking about sticker charts (& continuing the Superman theme), I wonder if he'd find these more motivating than the standard stars http://www.amazon.co.uk/Superhero-Stickers-Party-Fillers-supplied/dp/B002ATMPXY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1426928517&sr=8-2&keywords=superman+stickers

There are some downloadable Superman themed reward charts, too. Just Google.
