11 Days Without a Washing Machine

Frankly I am fed up with this thread and the fact that many people believe it's ok for someone not to receive a service they have paid for but:
Taking a different analogy, if you had bought a season ticket to take the train to work each day,10 miles, and the train company decided not to run the train service because of a fault and not to supply any refund how would you feel?
Would you say well it's not their fault, train lines go wrong every day and they can take 10 days to take a look at it because the supervisors on holiday and anyway you are capable of walking to work and in 10 days we will look at it and then take another 10 days to mend it, you can keep walking
Or, would you say you have paid for a service and if it isn't provided you would expect a rebate on the money paid or an alternative bus service provided?
This is the same, the tenant has paid for a service and it's not OK that it is not supplied and the LL has gone away and not made arrangement to sort it out.0 -
Have they? I missed that bit. I thought they were paying for rental of a property to live in.Frankly I am fed up with this thread and the fact that many people believe it's ok for someone not to receive a service they have paid for but:

I might have missed something, but from what I can see, the OP hasn't confirmed whether the machine is even on their inventory or not - indeed, they started off with something about "implied" in their contract, which suggests it ISN'T on the inventory.0 -
and even if the washing machine is on the inventory, are they paying for a maintenance service? Only if the contract says the landlord will repair as part of the contract.0

It seems your more fed up of the situation than the OP...
Your last sentence implies the LL is aware of the fault, ignored it and went away on holiday, when in fact he doesn't yet know and chances are they will sort it as soon as they return home....Contract allowing of course.0 -

OPs situation is more like buying a season ticket for the train and getting on it one day to find the heating has broken down in one of the carriages. Slightly inconvenient for that journey, yes but you wouldn't expect a refund on your season ticket.0
