Can a server at work monitor websites visited?

Internet access could be and was routinely logged and monitored in the late 1990's, it should not be coming as a shock to anyone. All internet traffic flows through various servers, each of which may or may not log what flows. You could disguise your surfing through an equally suspicious-looking VPN, but in this day and age where you can surf from your smartphone over 3G/4G why use the work connection? Then your surfing habits are just between you and your mobile network and anyone they are subpoenad to tell.0

Don't be so dramatic.
If you don't want your internet behaviour to be tracked, then don't use someone else's equipment to access it.
Hardly dramatic, just stating a fact.
When you have worked somewhere for more than a quarter of a century, I think you deserve a little trust.:)Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
its the same when spammers now with send spam through support ticket systems etc. thinking because they are not using email they are not leaving emails headers to trace where they are from, but these days server log originators true IP and servers will log the originators IP, and server hostname so easier to track them.
so all internet usage is monitored to some degree all the time0 -

but all PCs will be monitored not just yours. even coming on this forum your IP will be recorded and activity on the forum monitored.
pop onto the M&S website you will be monitored while on that site0 -
Yes, it'd be strange if they didn't - the employer needs to be sure no-one's looking at !!!!!! etc. that could be viewed by and cause distress to a colleague.
I don't think they've got time to ready every email or anything - it's just watching out for the dodgy things that could damage the employer's reputation of conflict with their duty of care to other employees.0 -

They wont read email unless they suspect something that gives them grounds to do so0 -
With remote access software your IT department can monitor everything you do on your PC, watch your screen in real-time as you do it, and record it to a video file for later presentation at a disciplinary meeting.
Your employer's IT policy should cover whether monitoring is in use and for what purposes.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Oh yes I appreciate that it is not just my PC.
So can they actually monitor exactly each and every thing that you are looking at on a particular site and how long you are on it for?
I certainly won't be checking this thread at work tomorrow, that's for sure:)Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

Yes.The fact that Policy Central Enterprise captures violations from both screen and keyboard means that it can monitor all incoming and outgoing activity - whatever the application used.
So not only does it detect and capture violations within Internet applications – browsers, search engines, email, chat rooms and instant messaging – it also monitors the content of all other Windows applications such as zipped files, password protected Word documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, presentations as well as portable devices such as USB Flash Hard drives.
Once displayed on screen, in whatever format, the violation will be detected and the screen captured.
