Cheapest Place to do Food Shopping?

I shop mainly at asda and maybe go to tesco once a month - only really to use up clubcard till spits and extra point coupons that come in with my rewards. I also buy Princes, Woodsmoked peppered mackerel and I can't get this ANYWHERE else (tried asda, morrisons and sainsburys).
I do prefer the clothes selection in tesco however, and the prices are really good. My asda never seems to have much in and it's a really big store.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies...
Might be worth me having a look around to see where improvements can be made0 -
the price of staple food generally, it has to be said, is rising quite dramatically due to a shortage of crops, bad weather, market turmoil. milk, bread, rice, most things are going up.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

I do my shopping at Iceland. Theres always loads of BOGOF deals there and if you spend more than £25 they deliver for free so no need to use any petrol either. I manage to do a months worth of shopping for about £45 by buying bogofs in Iceland. I've shopped there for about the last 7 years.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place - but I just wanted to say thanks to all those, including this great site and martin, for recommending mySupermarket.co.uk - it's brilliant. We normally shop at ocado, have tried sainsbury's online (instore is great but its about 13 miles away) in the past but found the deliveries not great. Do top up shopping at our local Budgens but just tried the mySupermarket site and by doing so saved a whopping £11 buy not shopping at Ocado and trying sainsbury's online again.
£11 for one weeks shopping - wahoo!! Very Cool thank you. Hopefully the delivery will be ok and well worth the saving.
Thanks allThis site is just excellent :T0 -
We've got an Aldi near us and I've been a few times but I can't get everything I want, so end up going to Asda or Sainsbury. In our Aldi I don't rate the fruit and veg, it goes off very quickly, so a waste of money.
I have a choice of Asda, Tesco or Sainsbury about the same distance away. I've read on here that Aldi is about the same price as Tesco own brand stuff.
I do most of my shopping at Tesco, although I have recently done a monthly shop of dry goods at Asda which seems to be working well.
The idea there is you don't run out of cerial, pop to the shops and see other "bargins" and come out £10.00 lighter
Sticking to your list is another thing as well0 -
I hate supermarket shopping and so go as little as possible. I shop at Tesco. I have clubcard plus and get double points on everything. Last year I used the vouchers to have the car MOT'd and serviced. This year we used the vouchers to pay our trip through eurotunnel for our hols. Saturday we are going on a booze cruise - paid for by vouchers. We also have enough to pay for this years MOT and service.
This brings the cost of the shopping down. Plus the numbers that give free delivery, money off or extra points. My DH does any week to week shopping for milk etc.0 -
I have shopped at ASDA for ever, and even though I have tried other places I always go back to ASDA. ALDI is great too, although they don`t have enough items for me to do a proper full weekly shop.
I usualy go to ALDI when I fancy something of theirs in particular, like the big and wonderful continental cheesecake(in the freezer) that they sell, or their scrumtious chicken and leek pie(on the cooler shelves). It`s only 10 mins walk away so I can nip whenever I want.
I tend to do my ASDA shopping online as I don`t have a car at the moment. Alot of ASDA`s own products are just as good as the big names and I even buy a lot of the Smartprice products which are great too. Smartprice biscuits are soooo cheap and just as yummy as any other biscuit.
ASDA rocks!! p.s. So does ALDI but they just need to be bigger!!0
