O/S Daily Wednesday 18th February 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, air feels a bit chilly, but sky looks clear.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was a naughty takeaway – having way too many of those, that was the last one for a while, but plumber didn’t leave until gone 6pm, so it was just easier and far less hassle to order a takeaway. Hoping that the boiler is now fixed, it’s on and working and it doesn’t appear to be leaking, so hoping the problem has been solved with the new parts that have been installed. Just have to get everywhere dried out – it’s drying up nicely though. Dinner tonight will either be med roasted veg tart or spag bol – may go with the med roasted veg tart – will need to think what to go with it – possibly stuffed jackets and some sort of side salad. The veg is getting to a point where it needs to be used up.

Work yesterday had spells of being really busy and then completely flat, so have no idea what today will bring, but only working until lunchtime, then on my days’ off. Was very naughty yesterday as I’ve been resisting buying a cast iron shallow cooking dish, (you can use them on the hob and put them in the oven), I went into MrS yesterday morning as I was a bit early for work and needed to pick up something else, and they had their own brand of the cast iron dish on half price sale, so I bought one, but I did redeem my points against it so at full price was £45 price dropped to £22.00 in the sale and I paid £10 – so although a spend I think a worthwhile one.

When I get home today I will do the normal few jobs that need to be done. I also need to sort the washing, drying and ironing – have 2 loads of washing that’s dry but needs folding/ironing/putting away.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

My posting has been sporadic recently , hopefully I can post a bit more often. ATM we are sorting my mum out to move. Thankfully we have found her a lovely bungalow , she picked the keys up yesterday and I'm going down tonight after work tonight to start moving her stuff first thing tomorrow :j
Hopefully she will be very happy there once we've settled her in . It's much smaller than where she is now and so she can't take all her furniture . But at least she won't be isolated and ATM she is living in awful conditions , damp and cold . The bungalow is lovely and warm , light and airy , can't wait to move her in :T

Off to work now Have a lovely day everyone xx

Sistercas nice to see you posting, I hope al goes well with your mums move and that she is happy there x

Off to work again today its been manic this week but great fun the clients are thriving on it being so busy it really is the best place to work.

Dinner tonight will be tiny chorizo sausages which I cook in the oven then do with rice and peas, a nice quick dinner after a busy day.

sistercas, I hope your Mum will be very happy in her new home. It must be horrid to see her living in such rotten conditions at the moment.
nmlc - I have some of those cast iron dishes from Mr S, they are great and I have only ever bought them in the sale.
Bargain Bird, are you ok, not heard from you for a while.
Gers, I hope you have a better day today.

I'm off to the Science Centre in Glasgow today with the school. Should be a good day but we are going on the train with a lengthy walk at each end and it's wet and windy!

Had fishcakes from Ald! yesterday for tea. There wasn't much fish in and they had a runny bit in the middle that I wasn't keen on. Wont buy them again.

I've retrieved some bolognese sauce from the freezer for tonight, just the pasta to cook. Hoovered round yesterday and put some more washing on the airers. More to do tonight!

Hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX
  • Morning one and all. It feels less cold today and no frost, unlike yesterday.

We went on our canal walk yesterday but oh it was cold. Not a day for dilly dallying though we did spare a few minutes watching the birds and all the ducks, geese and swans that gather on that stretch. Sadly no barges navigating the 5-rise or 3-rise locks as we find that fascinating to watch. We were glad to get to Bingley and thaw out in a cosy pub for lunch. We both settled on Hunter's Chicken which was delicious. The fresh air really knocked us out and we both fell asleep not long after getting home! Didn't bother making anything later as neither of us not that hungry after that big lunch and just settled on a sandwich mid evening.

A couple of jobs earmarked for today which I keep putting off! The oven and fridge to clean. I really must do them today! Being Ash Wednesday it's a no-meat day for Mr TA so I have just got him out of the freezer a big piece of crumbed plaice I got ys in Sainsbobs. Lunch time maybe a jacket spud with creamed mushrooms and salad.

sistercas your mum's new bungalow sounds lovely. Gers, chin up, not long to go now.

Have a good day all. Take care xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Just caught up on yesterday's thread and wanted to add my sympathies to Gers on having such a rubbish day. I really hope today is better for you and the finishing line is in sight. Also I'm very glad the funeral went well meanmarie. I don't like going to funerals (well who does!) but it is nice to catch up with friends and relatives you haven't seen for ages even in such sad circumstances.

It's turning out to be quite a nice day here again. Yesterday was lovely and it did me a lot of good to get out in the sunshine for a little bit. The hospital appointment went well for my friend and we managed to have a hot chocolate and a good catch-up as well.

I've just put the ingredients for a gammon and bean casserole in the slow cooker so hopefully that will be nice by tonight. I'm not sure what to serve it with as I would normally do baked potatoes with something like that but we had those yesterday. I'm sure I will think of something nice, probably leeky mash with a little bit of cheese in it if there is any left in the fridge.

Well it's all peaceful here except for the sound of the washing machine. The girls are all still in bed and I am going to grab a quick shower before I can't get near the bathroom. Hope you all have a wonderful day whatever you are doing. Take care xx

    Morning everyone.

Sorry for the foot stamping last night...I have slept well and will settle down to do the piece of work (well, probably not all 124 pages) with a bit more humour.

Wet and mild here. No idea what's for food as hadn't planned on being back here so early in the week. Will have to do a freezer dive.

Sistercas - so glad to hear about your mothers move, I remember reading your description of her home and shuddering. Good luck with everything.

TA - the canal were I live has a lovely nine mile/17 lock walk though we have yachts and small boats going through. It's a very pretty sight in summer. I often sit at the sea lock near me and read and watch.

Right, must get sorted and get my head down. It will be a less stressful day today. Mind you it's taken until three weeks before 'retiring' for me to have my worst day at work, others have bad days a lot of the time.

Hope everyone has a good day. :T

No rushing around for us today as DD's decorating is finished, her house is nearly ready to go on the market.
Hubby wants to go into town to get his hearing aid repaired.
I'm hoping to get some time on the sewing machine later, if I don't end up asleep, lol.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning all.

Lovely and sunny here at the moment; it's melting the frost on my car for me!

Quick post before I set off to work. The Temp job is very enjoyable but exhausting. I've left DH in charge of meals this week because of it so last night we had pork chops, roast potatoes, carrots, peas and gravy. Tonight I believe he's making shepherds pie so hopefully he makes enough to last for two days.

Off to get ready now so enjoy your day.
